Tiberi -- Another Congressman for Wall Street

Blue Dog Rising - Posted on 09 May 2010

Speaking of despicable, hypocritical GOP ads…

A new TV commercial running in the Columbus market to promote Congressman Pat Tiberi features no tawdry sex jokes nor any BSB copyright infringements …but it’s still laughable. Here are the Top five reasons:

No. 5:  Panicky Pat is running scared and this ad proves it.  He is facing a stiff challenge in OH-12 by Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks. This is the first known independent expenditure commercial (at least in Ohio)   funded by a major,  new wingnut think-tank-ad-machine  called the American Action Network/Forum. This group is clearly backed by Wall Street interests  and is funding an, early, costly,  10-day TV  effort for Tiberi in OH-12.

No. 4 – Wall Streeters are  behind the ad and the Network. Among the group’s leaders and donors are a host of Bush/Wall Street refugees, including  Douglas Holtz-Eakin, ex-chair of Bush's Council of Economic Advisers, and Robert Steel,  an ex- Goldman Sachs vice chairman for 30 years and later known in the Washington Post as the Wall Street "fixer"  as No. 2 man in the Bush Treasury Department during critical year of 2008. . Karl Rove and other Bushies have assembled  this American Action Network/Forum in the past few months to impact 2010 elections. There are a lot more Street people leading or giving to this Network and you're gonna hear a lot more from it this year.

No. 3  - Tiberi votes FOR Wall Street, not OH-12  Tiberi voted NO last Dec. 11 on HR 4173,  the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, still pending in Congress.  The new ad opens up Tiberi to the legit charge of  payback for his ongoing support of Wall Street interests, for example in this recent Tiberi letter to Ted Strickland.

No. 2 – Tiberi's  past votes undermine his commercial message.. This Street-backed ad for Tiberi paints him as “fiscally responsible” and sensitive  to the need for Washington to balance its budget as  “families balance their budgets.”  However…for years, Tiberi  voted with the Bush administration and Gangs of Wall Street to drive up the federal deficit with tax cuts for the rich. Tiberi was also caught “red-handed” taking campaign money from the health insurance industry and voting twice against the historic, new health care reform law last March and December.

No. 1 -  Tiberi and Kasich are unmasked together. Ted Strickland’s recent 30-second spot  defined John Kasich as the “Congressman FROM Wall Street.”  Now meet Kasich’s successor in OH-12 for the past decade -- Pat  Tiberi, the Congressman FOR Wall Street.... or is he the Congressman Wall Street is FOR.

Prediction::  In the anti-DC atmosphere of 2010, Pat Tiberi will soon become Exhibit A  for Brooks and Dems in the case  that Republican House incumbents are also in trouble this year.
