The Republicans Would Like You To Know About My Father's Alcohol Problem

Let me preface with the fact that by no means do I think I'm an innocent actor. There's no "woe is me" here. Online I can be inflammatory, a prick, and over the top. There's plenty at BSB that even the most dedicated reader has disagreed with from time to time. But one things clear here, if it's irrelevant I sure as hell won't attack someone's family. Morality is important in politics - my morality is definitely one of the reasons I'm a Democrat.
Today Right Angle Blog posted my father's drunk driving record from 20 years ago.
I'm not a drinker. Aside from an occasional glass of champagne at a celebration, I'm stone cold sober. Always have been, good chance I always will be. My uncle was killed by a drunk driver, alcoholism runs in my extended family, and alcohol played a big part with problems in my own family while I was growing up. How this matters to our Congressional elections, Ted Strickland, President Bush or anything else, I couldn't tell you. But the republicans would like you to know that my father has an DUI on his record from over 20 years ago. Fair enough I suppose.
The blog that posted this did not enjoy my questions regarding its author's financial ties to political candidates and parties - but they were at least related to the political sphere. These are the kind of actions that show that people like this don't think Ann Coulter takes things far enough. They're bent on destroying of folks, and, I suppose that's relatively easy to do when you've lost your moral compass. It's also easy to do when your political party condones this type of behavior. Afterall, it wasn't too long ago in March that the Ohio Republican Party posted my mother's contact information on their website and urged folks to call it.
I'm just a 24 year old law student, please don't attack my family. If you insist on being an asshole, go after me.
I'm not ashamed of my father. I'm not ashamed of my mother. They've made plenty of mistakes in their lives, and I'm sure I've followed suit. But that doesn't relate back to our political debate. Not in the least. Not a tiny bit.

Also, plenty of folks have sent me dirt on this guy and suggested I go after him personally. Unless it relates to politics, I won't, and I'd encourage others not to as well.

How pathetic must his life be to live like this? Sitting there will all that pent up rage and once he lets a bit of it out, his paymasters grab him by the scruff of his neck and pull him to heel again.

who has spent the last several years acting in such a reprehensible manner. When Scott posted my 'colorful' history on his own blogsite, he actually went back 24 years - I guess I have your dad beat by four years, Jerid.
Such vile actions merely serve as a tell-all regarding the nature of the poster. As with Ann Coulter, perhaps this is a 'good' thing, as it serves to do nothing but create derision towards the poster, even from members of their own party.

Jerid...you know me...we have talked about stuff like this. Going after the family is not cool with me..i told you by text message this morning how I felt about stuff like this...hope you got it...but, you better be careful how wide of a brush you use to paint people. Don't give me this my morality is why I am a democrat stuff. c'mon. You guys all roll around in the mud. Rolling around in the mud will get you dirty. You started to go down the "politics of personal destruction route." You better turn around one that one as well. I could write all day about viscous democrat attacks on people...solely for the purpose of ending a career. This usually happens when democrats can't win. Seriously, now. Don't assume that everyone who is conservative has lost their moral compass...that is crap...flat out. I am not even sure what some of you guys use as a moral compass.
I understand you felt attacked...or, that your family was. But, that doesn't give you the right to lump everyone together. In case anyone forgets by the end of this comment: I never bring family into this stuff...and, don't agree with it.

Mike, if RAB still lets Naugle post, then it is not Democrats who are painting with a broad brush, it is the GOP, using the broadest, in every sense of the word, stinking brush they could find. Matt Naugle is the single most offensive puke in the history of Ohio blogging, and if the GOP likes having him around, then it's their big fat brush doing the stroking.

Not all Republicans are this way. But it's hard to deny that the Ohio Republican Party set a precedent for this when they posted my mother's information in March. Members of the Cuyahoga County Central Committee sent a letter to the ORP asking for them to apologize to my mom. Nothing came of that.
I was not attacked. That's the point, my family was attacked to get to me. These guys are chicken shit, not way around it...the party included.

I am sure you are aware of this since you grew up with it in your family that none of the unfortunate things that happened to your family could cause your father to drink and drive. No one put a gun to his head and poored liquor down his throat and made him drive. However, I hope that the people over at Right Angle have an explanation for their behavior other than being assholes with poor judgement. As far as I know, no one put a gun to their head either...
I must say I feel that the conversation with your father may have danced on the fringe of the fallacy that all of those bad things may have caused him to drink and drive. However, he seems responsible in taking ownership for his past misdeeds. Maybe the conversation with your father will set an example to the person(s) who decided in poor judgement to go after your family and allow them the opportunity and dignity to look at their own actions. What they did was obviously way out of line.

I am sure the filter you guys will "hear" this with is "see...he (pelsozy) is just the same as what we are accusing all those other republicans of." Or, something like that. Look...Jerid wants to talk about a moral compass to deride matt naugle and ALL REPUBLICANS. Jerid said it himself...in so many words: "to be moral is to be democrat." That is not supposed to be a direct quote, but it what he implies. Jerid went so far as to say that we have all lost our moral compass, and that we want to destroy people. That is personal, and calls all our character in question. Well my moral compas is the bible. Go ahead make fun of me: I dare you. The bile is quite clear: YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW. I would chapter and verse it, but that one I am sure everybody has heard that before. From the little bit I have been around Jerid has proved that on-line he can be a few choice things--he said it, I did not. When you google naugle...one of the first things you come up with is Jerid making fun matt. Is that something to be proud of? That's not personal? Come off of it. Give me a break. I am sure there is A LOT MORE I haven't seen. Basically, Jerid called us all morally bankrupt, bent on destruction, etc. Should I be mad? Should I be hurt? No. Not at all. I take it for what it is: Jerid acting like a partisan hack. Do I think Jerid bad, hateful, etc. for calling us imoral? No I don't. Would I have made the offending post: no way. You will never see me (hopefully...and blast me if I do) doing what either side has done.
Call on matt to do what?? blah blah blah. That's all I hear there. Give me a break. That kinda stuff makes for good headlines, and makes for a good drum beat in your echo chamber.

if you don't want matty painting your party with a broad brush, then don't let him. he's the one with the brush. your party is the one paying him to do so, in numerous domain names.
as for attacks on matty, his ties to bill todd are relevant, he made them relevant, and his only problem with it is that photoshop makes it easy to send the message. wah. your party makes it a habit of going after people's families, particularly jerid's. not sure which bible you read that makes that practice so holy.
your party is, in fact, morally bankrupt, on so many levels it is hard to even begin listing them. i'm sure you'll now quote something about an eye for an eye, and as ghandi said, that only makes everyone blind. seems you've gotten there first.

Unfortunately, the party and it's biggest surrogates online are the one's with the lost compass. It's unfortunate when these are the folks that represent you. Should I saw 48% of Republicans....16%. No. You get the ORP to redress it's attack on my mom, and them to distance themselves from Naugle's actions and then I'd have no cause to throw the GOP banner on this.
Also, as Matt's banner points out, RAB is "Ohio's most popular and influential Republican Website." You don't get to pick and choose when that guy represents Republicans with claims like that.

knows that he is a public figure now. Even Matt surely knows he is a public figure. Jerid can take the attacks. It's part of the job. His parents are not public figures and should not be brought into this public discussion by Matt Naugle or anyone else who has a problem with Jerid's politics or public stands. Period.

Pelsozy loves to protest about anything that is said and wants to appear as if he knows all. I'm sure he can't recognize how he comes across. I think he must be arrogant (no I am not attacking YOU which you seem to feel anytime I write about anything you say Pelsozy) It looks to me as if everything is charaterized as blah, blah, blah.... No matter what anyone says you read more into it than what might be meant. Yet you take offense if someone makes a "negative" comment about your post. Why are you always so defensive? Why doesn't Skinny just fight someone already? He's got this much rage bottled up inside that he feels the need to spew all day, every day--so why won't he just fight someone already? That way, he can get his fat ass bloodied and bruised, everyone around can watch him drown in a pool of his own tears, and he can move to a cabin in Montana where he belongs. Dear Chairmen Bennett,
I have recently been made aware of some disturbing allegations regarding the use of the State of Ohio GOP website. It is my understanding that Buckeye State Blog, in attempts to push the “envelope” in the blog world, posted your home phone number on their website and urged readers to call you at home regarding the events transpiring at the Cuyahoga County BOE. I find this behavior very questionable, unethical and over the line. Although you are a public figure, and should always be accessible to the public, your family has no business being harassed at home by the general public. More upsetting, was what I came to find out was the response on the State GOP website/blog. I stood in disbelief and anger when I learned, that in an act of juvenile and unprofessional behavior, some one had posted the blog authors Mother’s home phone number and address on Ohio GOP.org, the state party website. I am hoping that this is not acceptable behavior or considered an appropriate response to an attack on you. As a State Party, we are above this type of childish and vindictive behavior. As they say, two wrongs do not make a right. I am confident incidents such as this will not be repeated and are not condoned by you or our party. One could only hope all efforts are being taken to find out the identity of the individual or individuals responsible for posting this information and they will be immediately relieved of their duties for the party. If not already sent, I am sure a letter of apology will be forthcoming to this individual’s mother. In closing, I would like to thank you for your time and will be looking forward to a timely response as to what actions our party is taking to rectify this poor behavior.
