The Republicans Would Have You Believe This Is A Partisan Speech

In their press release last week not only did the Ohio Republican Party steal my picture, they tried to sell the biggest lie imaginable. They tried to claim that Brunner gave a partisan speech.

"Jennifer Brunner's decision to participate in a delegation pep rally at the Democratic Party's nominating convention raises troubling questions about her objectivity in administering this election," said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine.  "This is yet another example of blatant partisanship coming from the Secretary of State.  Is she conspiring with Obama campaign officials in Denver?  Is she coordinating with DNC or state Democratic Party leaders on election strategy?  Jennifer Brunner has some serious questions to answer about this lapse in judgment."

Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, I recorded that “partisan” speech. As it turns out, it really isn’t all that partisan. The main topic of the speech wasn’t Barack Obama or any Democratic officials, it was women's suffrage.

Here it is, Brunner’s full speech. Can you find the partisanship?

And if you wanted to criticize the Secretary of State for being partisan, please make sure you’re party’s last S.O.S. wasn’t the state chair for the Bush/Cheney campaign first. When you want to accuse someone of injecting partisan politics into the way an election is run, make sure you aren’t the party that had a secret closed door meeting of all of your party’s board of election members.

Until you have all of that in order, please shut up. Maybe you’d even learn something about why you can’t win an election in the process.
