The people don't want this primary to end, and that's a rejection of Obama...

No matter how Jerid, Tim, or the rest of the Obama crew wants to spin this, if the polls are any indication of what we can expect tonight this is an absolutely failure of the Obama campaign to put the nomination to bed. Just a few days ago, Jerid was claiming that Obama's internals showed him winning Ohio beyond the margin of error. But then real polling came out and it showed Clinton, not Obama surging, why? Obama then quietly slinked out of the state leaving us nothing more than a two-minute cookie cutter infomercial that had the same message in both Texas and Ohio.

Jerid and Tim are desparate to convince themselves and the world that it's because anyone who votes for Hillary does so because they're racists.  Will Obama do poorly in SEO?  Of course, he will, but it's not because (as Jerid suggests) because of the Muslim rumors.  It's because Obama has barely campaigned there while the Clinton campaign invested alot of time in an area that is Ted Strickland country where his endorsement carries the most weight.  And that's why Obama will do poorly in SEO (with the exception of Athens County.)

People in Texas and Ohio know that a vote for Obama is a vote to end the primary campaign.  And all the polling shows that the late deciding voters are breaking to Clinton.  You can't read that any other way other than people are not ready to hand the nomination to Obama.

Obama outspent Clinton four to one, even though he hasn't been outfundraising her by that margin.  That means the Obama campaign had a high burn rate and was trying to end this campaign under a mountain of cash.  On top of that, Obama-supporting unions outspent Clinton-alligned organizations by a five to one spending ratio.  And ACORN provided Obama's campaign with a free, in-kind contribution of its GOTV effort.  Obama led in the national polls by double-digits and had over a hundred delegate lead.  He's gotten practically every endorsement over the past month and had the momentum of his prior 11 straight victories.

So why is Obama going to lose tonight, if not racism?  One, the Ohio debate helped.  After the debate, health care became the top concern of Ohio Democratic primary voters and a definate preference for Hillary's proposal over Obama's began to surface (see, SurveyUSA poll.)

The other is the issue of NAFTA.  Obama's campaign thought they could tap into Ohio's voters instinctive hatred of NAFTA as an effective foil against Clinton.  And, at first, it worked well.  But as people began to actually explore the Obama side of the equation it became clear that Obama was trying to dress his Hillary Clinton-esque record on trade in Sherrod Brown rhetoric.  And when caught in it, Obama suddenly looked like a typical politician and his entire mystique as a "new kind of politics" crumbled.  That's why the Canadian embassy story was important.  It brought up the fact that Obama's real record on trade, and NAFTA in particular, was not one of consistently opposing it.  Just like Clinton, Obama had actually praised NAFTA as a positive economic achievement in prior campaigns.  It softened Obama's image as a protectionist.

The "3 a.m." ad also worked.  Hearing the Obama supporters whine about how unfair it was reminded me (and I'm sure others) of the whining of the Kerry campaign in 2004 and how ineffective it was.  Ironically, some Obama-supporting bloggers posted or referred to what Bill Clinton said at the time.  And if you remembered only the words, then it was powerful.  But I was reminded that Bill Clinton's argument didn't work, and Kerry lost because he was too busy whining how unfair the attacks were rather than going on the offensive.  And I think people began to wonder if Obama was this ineffective against Hillary Clinton, how is he going to be any better against McCain who obviously will use his commander-in-chief rhetoric as a centerpiece of his campaign?

The Washington Post has a poll out today that finds that two-thirds of Democrats believe Hillary should continue her campaign if she wins either Ohio or Texas.  And yet, Obama's people will scream about the delegate math for Clinton.  Well, let me tell you something about that.  You have to look at the whole equation and take into consideration Obama's path to the nomination after today.  And when you do that, you realize that it's the same path as Clintons.  Neither candidate will have enough pledge delegates to secure the nomination and will need to reply on a heavy advantage of superdelegates to win.

The votes haven't even been countered, and Jerid already has put up multiple posts as to why Clinton should drop out.

Maybe we'd all be better served if we listened to the majority of our fellow Democrats who voted not to end this nomination battle today instead of writing them off as misinformed racists.

And maybe we should start to question why we should nominate a candidate who couldn't win the key battleground state of Ohio despite getting all the media endorsements, outspending his opponent four-to-one, two key union endorsements, and a national lead in the polls.

I will give you a clue!

Rush endorses Hillary...do you think that is a good thing? Why..because she can't beat McCain...plain and simple...if you morons want to lose the election again and have 4 more of Bush years...then keep it up, you are doing a great job for McCain. And come on Nafta...did ANYONE think either of them would kill it, heck the Clintons brought it in and have herald it as a great thing...only now while running for Prez does she all the sudden denounce it. Check Baracks record, he has been consistent..also did you ever consider that Baracks campaign did not know that Goolsby had been invited to the Canadian embassy...they were out running hard and campaigning from what I saw...I think Barack has been bouncing all over and I am sure he was not keeping track of what his economic adviser that was at his day job at the University of Chicago was doing during his daily regime...Use some commonsense people, this was just a political issue blown up to make you take your eye off the ball..pure and simple crap.

Get your facts straight.

Rush "endorsed" Clinton because he doesn't want the Democrats to unite behind a candidate yet. It has nothing to do with which candidate he thinks would do worse against Clinton.

And, yes, I think when Obama claims that he has "consistently against" NAFTA that suggests that he would prefer it not to be policy.

Barack, as recently as his Senate candidacy debates two years ago, lauded NAFTA's positive economic benefits.  And Obama has voted to expand NAFTA to include Peru.  So, no, he hasn't been consistent and every neutral, objective fact checking organization has concluded that Obama has been exaggerating his record on trade in Ohio to sound more protectionist than he really is.

Given that the campaign put out a definitive statement that nobody from the campaign had met with any official of the Canadian government, yes, I do blame them for not knowing that his CHIEF ECONOMIC ADVISOR met with officials of the Canadian goverment.

He didn't meet the Canadians in his capacity as a University of Chicago professor, but in his campaign capacity.

But I love the spin!  "Pure and simple crap", that's exactly how I'd describe Obama's trade rhetoric.

I have my facts straight

I live in one of the most Red states around...Alabama, I have lots of republican friends. Everyone of them wants Clinton to be the nominee, because they HATE her and it will rally their base. Even continuing the blood battle helps them...if you want to think otherwise, that is your misinformation, since I have to live in a State that is radically Red...I hear all the Republican rants and strategies. My prediction...if Hillary stays in and does not have the delegate lead, wins it by super delegates, the base will be split, independents will not vote for her like they will for Obama, the republican base will be united over defeating a Clinton, McCain will win and America will lose...Mark my word.

The people don't want this primary to end?

Hillary supporter. Obama supporter. They all unequivocally agree they want this primary to end. Hold your bloviating to the end of the day. You can hop around with your feathers upraised then.

Read the Washington Post poll, Jerid...

Two-thirds said that Hillary Clinton should continue her campaign if she wins either Texas or Ohio.

That's what the polls says from the Washington Post/ABC NEWS.

If people wanted this primary to end, then they'd vote for Obama, not Clinton.  The fact that even you concede that Obama will not carry Ohio tonight means that Ohio primary voters do not want this race to be over.

You can try to spin this any other way Jerid, but the facts don't support what you said in your comments just now.  Ohio primary voters who vote for Clinton do so knowing it means that this nomination fight goes on to PA.

As for bloviating, you've posted multiple posts already about how racism is why Obama is losing tonight and regardless of the results Hillary Clinton should drop out without so much of a single vote being counted.

She is NOT a democrat, period.

 SAD, SORRY, SICKENING!

only misguided, misinformed, money corrupted, stinkin thinkin can defend the actions of this despicable creature. she is shaming herself, the process, the office of the presidency, our efforts at volunteering to document Our history. Obama people and democratic bigwigs with integrity need to sit this woman down and give her an earful, this is a national disgrace, if she squirms, whines, gets agitated again- someone need to put her across their knee, maybe Granny D could be first to dole out the whipping. this is disgusting and anyone who defends this conduct has no credibility, whatsoever get real and look in the mirror this is a tragic farce!

ambition, personality defect, whatever I'm sick of the whisper campaigns this is experience? I say EXPEDIENCE.

YOU ARE KIDDING--RIGHT! (Truly Sickening)

Surely you are not advocating that Women-any Woman-should be put over someones knee for speaking what they think and feel.  You are exactly why we need a WOMAN in the White House. I really do not think too many people agree with you but unfortunately some still do because plenty of women get beat up every day in our country-and so do children, but usually it is done behind closed doors and not too many people would actully verbalize that to the general public!  You probably are still into the tar and feather bit as well!

WE WANT TO DECIDE FOR OURSELVES!!!!

I agree with Modernsquire that the people are not ready to call it a day! Why should we be? Aren't we allowed to take our time to get to know all candidates better and not just have to take the media's word for who they are? I know this upsets the media but it is in our country's best interest for the voters to be informed as much as possible. Things are just beginning to surface for some candidates because of the great media bias. We might have to wait awhile for all of the truth to come to light at the rate the media is covering their favorites and this applies to both parties not just one. The same thing has happened to Huckabee that happened to Hillary Clinton. This is called a primary. There is no reason for anyone to drop out yet because it isn't over. We will get to know the candidates better in the coming months and other states will get to weigh in on this and they will be better prepared that we were because the media is now being forced to report events and hopefully, they will do their job and give us a real picture of all candidates without their bias. Lets stop allowing them to do this to us or we don't have a real voice at all--we are just like magpie's--we repeat what they tell us and act accordingly--demand the truth from the media--the whole truth--not their spin! And let this primary go on as long as it needs to go on.

WHY ARE YOU LISTENING TO REPUBLICANS?

And since when do we listen to Republicans when we pick our nominee? Oh yeah, ever since Obama-rama decided to start acting and talking like one (see Obama health care and NAFTA short shrift meetings!), and asking everyone to worship at the alter of "reaching out across the aisle." Oh yeah, like the GOP is going to rush over to grab Obama's hand and help his naive azz out! And I heard Obama himself complain the other day that HRC wanted to destroy Republicans and he will bring them into the process. WHAT A LOAD OF HOG WASH! The Republicans want government destroyed. The Republicans want public education destroyed. The Republicans want crass, greedy corporations to own America, lock, stock, and barrel. The Republicans destroyed unions and good paying jobs. The Republicans want the Democratic party destroyed. And all the wishful, fantasy island mentality at the Obama-rama rock concerts WILL NOT MAKE THAT GO AWAY. There is more than one kind of war going on in this country. And wishing and hoping doesn't make it go away. I'm voting for the REAL DEMOCRAT in this race: Hillary Clinton. I know she won't sell out the party's values. But Obama will!

Re: WHY ARE YOU LISTENING TO REPUBLICANS?

Good point!

The Republicans want

The Republicans want government destroyed: If you are talking about Democratic fifedoms like what Mayor Coleman has set up here in Columbus you are correct ... what percentage of the people that got a job though him actually put in a day of hard work? The Republicans want public education destroyed: If you truely believe our children are being better educated in public schools than in private schools you need more help than I am capable of giving you. There is a difference between 'Education' and 'Indoctrination' ... we need to get back to the basics. The Republicans destroyed unions and good paying jobs: The unions did this to themselves, they simply have not found a way to compete in a global economy. Since there is no way for them to produce goods cheaper they must produce them better than their foreign counterparts ... that has not happened. The upside is once we have brought the third world countries to the 21st century they will become consumers of our products such as the medical and technology fields. In Rochester MN. they had to extend the airport runway to accommodate Saudi Royales comming to receive the best medical care on planet earth - The Mayo Clinic. Republicans want the Democratic party destroyed: I for one need the Democratic Party around just as the church needed Satan around ... there has to be an example of what happens when socialism is followed, (New Orleans), when government saps motivation from people by endlessly giving them things it creates lifelong wards of the state who never leanr to rely on themselves for their needs. One thing you didn't mention: Republicans are racists: Republicans aren't racists, they are culturalists - we believe in the American culture ... not the Chinese culture, not the Mexican culture, not the Arab culture. The American culture is a MELTING POT. If we allow unfettered illegal immigration into the Untited States from say, Mexico, you end up with people with intact cultures that aren't melting. Take a look at what the Muslims and Serbs had in Kosovo and you can see firsthand what happens when cultures don't melt. Can anyone really try to say that Islamic culture promotes adopting other cultures ways? We are infidels just for listening to Madonna! And why can't we allow 25 million Chinese to move to California this year? It's the same reason Republicans want controlled immigration. The Republicans want crass, greedy corporations to own America, lock, stock, and barrel: Who will they sell their value added products to then? And really, what corporations are you talking about in particular? GM? Microsoft? Exxon? Buy stock in them if you think they are making so much money ... then you will own America too, lock, STOCK, and barrel.

Primary Should End

As a Clinton supporter, I would obviously like to see her win the nomination, BUT not at the expense of winning in the fall. The GOP is already on their national campaign and the Dems are already behind! Any Democrat who truly WANTS this primary to continue is not really thinking for the good of the party as a whole.

Primary should continue

Once Hillary takes 3 of 4 tonight and then moves on to take Kentucky WV and Pennsylvania Obama shold drop out. The Momentum is over and the kool aid is wearing off. Too many empty promises too many lies too little expereince. If this Primary campaign does wreck the GE for Hillary at least Obama will have gotten 4 more years of badly needed experience before his next impersonation of a qualified candidate.
