Is Traci Kennedy a Sutton Splitter

Finally some info on the Independent candidate running in the 13th District race. Seems she's a Republican who has entered the race to take votes away from Sutton - and according to the Akron Beacon Journal, it's not the first time...

But in the 13th District, Republicans helped one of their own -- Akron attorney Traci Kennedy -- file petitions to run as an independent in the district, which includes parts of Summit, Cuyahoga, Lorain and Medina counties.
There's no incumbent in that race because Rep. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon, is leaving his seat to run for the U.S. Senate.

Because Kennedy is a black female, she may draw enough women and African-Americans away from Democrat Betty Sutton to enhance the chances of Republican Craig Foltin, the mayor of Lorain.

It's not the first time local Republicans have used Kennedy as a splitter. Republicans circulated the petitions that put her in the November 2005 race for Akron clerk of courts against Republican incumbent Jim Laria and Democratic challenger Joyce Sawyer.

Something's happening this Summer...

Just got back from a rare appearance at a Lorain City Council Meeting. I usually have to work on Monday's.

Anyway, towards the end of the meeting, Second Ward Councilman Phillip Betleski asked Mayor Craig Foltin how his afternoon with the Vice President went.

Foltin in his usual demure, uninspiring whine, reported that things went alright, he did suggest they have a "Skeet Shoot" there, which didn't go over too well.

There was some nervous chuckling in the room, which prompted the response from Councilman Betleski, "If you really had a chance of winning - they would have sent the President".

Oh it's gonna be a ___________!!!

I'll leave it to Russell to fill in the punchline.

Thanks, Dick.......

After offering "generic praise" to the Republican candidate (i.e., who the hell is this guy, again?), Cheney used his campaign fundraising appearance as an opportunity to praise the Administration's NSA phone mining/tapping/whatever the hell they're doing but aren't saying program.

No word on where Foltin stands on the program.

Hattip: Openers.

Call for Nominations: Best Campaign Web Site

At the Tom Sawyer MeetTheBloggers event last Saturday, Sawyer said that he had no campaign web site because he didn't want to do something unless he did it well (or words to that effect). He expressed disdain for webs sites that merely mimic a candidate's resume, and are not kept current. He said that he would get around to putting up a web site when he found the help and material to put together a good one.

I asked if he'd be interested in hearing from the blogging community about what's out there as fas as examples of quality campaign sites, and he seemed genuinely interested. So, let's hear it! What are some really excellent campaign sites? What do you like about them? Why do they matter?
Skeet Shoot Summer Event in OH-13?

Hold on?!?!!? Isn't the 13th Sherrod's District?

NRA and Cafaro

The National Rifle Association has endorsed Capri Cafaro for Congress at a time when the 28-year-old Youngstown shopping mall heiress says she is thinking about packing heat.

Cafaro, a Democrat, who says she is a dedicated defender of the Second Amendment, opposes the assault weapon ban and favors Ohio's concealed-carry law. She also plans to take a class to learn how to fire a handgun, and might carry a weapon after she completes the course.

"As a woman who comes from means, I'm in some tough neighborhoods sometimes," she says.

An official with the NRA estimates the organization has about 15,000 members in the 13th congressional district, where Cafaro is running. The district includes parts of Summit, Cuyahoga, Medina and Lorain counties.

GUNS? Guns you say? In the 13th?

Hold on . . . the 13th is in OHIO?!

AAAHHHHH . . . people in Ohio like guns?

No Sh!t?

Who woulda thunk it?

Looks like we have another entry for 'Skeet Shoot Summer'.

Better start reading . . .
PULL!

Who Has the Edge In OH-13 ?

From the hotline
Rep. Sherrod Brown's (D) Senate bid opens up a solidly Dem seat, and 17 candidates (9 Dems, 8 GOPers) are looking to replace him. Two Dems have recognizable names to OH 13 voters: ex-Rep. Tom Sawyer, who earned union enmity with his '93 pro-NAFTA vote, and Gary Kucinich, who holds the same antiwar stance as his brother Dennis. Labor atty Betty Sutton, who received an endorsement from EMILY's List, is also viable, and Elyria Mayor Bill Grace has a base in Lorain Co. Free-spending shopping center heiress Capri Cafaro is a wild card. (The NRCC is touting Lorain Mayor Craig Foltin, but he's not politically polished.)
Tom Sawyer with his name ID and base ? The more labor friendly Sutton or the free spending Cafaro ? I have no clue.
