FOX NEWS Declares OH-3 "Potential Upset" for Mike Turner

gieves - Posted on 27 October 2008

Perhaps Fox News is fair and balanced. This weekend, the ever-Republican Fox declared OH-3 a "potential upset" in the Congressional Race.

On their website, Fox says: Key Races - Midwest: OH 3 (Potential for upset): Mike Turner (R) has a rematch with his 2004 opponent, Jane Mitakides (D). The District is comprised of much of urban Dayton which helps with Obama at the top of the ticket. Plus absentee ballots heavily favor Democrats.

This is what we knew all along, and event conservative Fox has to agree, Things aren’t looking good for Congressman Mike Turner. With only eight days to go in this landmark election season, it looks like Jane Mitakides (www.Jane08.com) will come out on top!

DDN Says OH-3 is Dems Best Shot

gieves - Posted on 22 October 2008

The Dayton Daily News (DDN) recognizes the potential behind Jane Mitakides’ race in OH-3! Martin Gottlieb writes that the 3rd District, in comparison to OH-2 or OH-7 “is much more likely than the others to go Democratic. (The core of it, Mongtomery [sic] County, leans Democratic even in an average year.)” And although the DDN endorsed Congressman Mike Turner, Gottlieb reminds readers that Turner “has had certain political embarrassments that are new,” referring to the CREW report on the 24 Most Corrupt in Congress. Mother Jones also reported on Turner’s earmarking in August.

The DDN points out that 2008 is THE year to win back OH-3, “the year offers the Democrats their best shot.” After 8 years of Bush, 2008 is a good year for Dems, “National trends matter a lot,” Gottlieb added.

Here it is folks! OH-3 is the easiest district to turn red-to-blue; let’s help make real change here and support Jane!

What has Turner so scared?

dress.me.blue - Posted on 21 October 2008

How scared is Mike Turner? It seems that Congressman Mike Turner refused a live debate against Jane Mitakides - the key factor in his decision? He wouldn't be allowed to use a briefing book.

Turner declined the WHIO question-and-answer style debate - which wouldn't include the use of notes - something high school debaters are quite used to (Seriously, Congressman, high schoolers). Presumably, the questions would relate to the 3rd district, and current events, something Turner should (hopefully) know.

Turner is a representative of the people of OH-3, and it is less than comforting that he is unable to publically discuss relevant issues without assistance. Of course, this is the man whose district includes DHL, yet he accepted $30,000 from UPS. It also includes Wright-Patt, but Turner voted against the GI bill, and voted against veterans 70% of the time. And in his 6 years in office, has only introduced and passed 1 piece of legislation - he renamed a park.

Perhaps this explains his reluctance to debate. Perhaps Mr. Turner is out of touch with the citizens of OH-3. Perhaps it is time someone truly represented OH-3 in the House of Representatives.

Jane Mitakides: The Power to Change

KJones - Posted on 14 October 2008

I've said it before, and I'm saying it again....Jane is the only logical choice for Congress!!

This woman is so amazing and so absolutely dedicated to our country, our state and our district.

Mike Turner is a corrupt guy who has no interest in the people of Dayton and the surrounding 3rd congressional district.

If a man embezzles money, throws our hopes away, disappoints us and manages to put himself in self in league with Bob Ney, do we really want to give him another chance??

I would hope the answer to be ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I want to see all good Democrats get out there and drum up support for Jane--donate money, help raise money, volunteer, help her canvass, get yard signs, give your friends yard signs, put a Jane bumper sticker on your car....anything!

WE NEED TO ELECT JANE

Politics isn't a game; it is our life and our future

My Big Fat Greek Fundraiser

Anyone near Dayton should check out Jane Mitakides' Big Fat Greek Fundraiser. It is being held at two bars downtown, and it is a toga party! The cover charge goes to a very important and close race where a democrat is going to take a republican seat. This is an awesome and fun way for young people to support a great candidate. Everything gets kicked off at 6:00 at Therapy Cafe then the party moves to Aquarius at 9:00. More info is on Jane's website jane08.com, or I have seen a lot of flyers going around UD. See you there.

OH-03: Mitakides Campaign Goes Carbon Neutral

Chris Kelly - Posted on 22 April 2008

(Cross-posted from http://www.jane08.com)

Many politicians use Earth Day for their own purposes, focusing on environmental issues for one day a year. However, global warming doesn’t take a vacation for the other 364 days a year - and neither can we.

That’s why Jane Mitakides has decided to walk the talk of green solutions by making her campaign carbon neutral, and committing to work for renewable energy and green jobs when elected to Congress.

By underwriting carbon offsets from CarbonFund.org, an organization that helps individuals, businesses, and organizations to eliminate their carbon footprints, the Mitakides campaign becomes the first one of the first congressional campaigns in the nation (and the first in Ohio) to take responsibility for their own greenhouse gas emissions.

Jane sees investing in renewable energy as the first step in a process that will create jobs and protect the environment. The fossil fuels that cause climate change and keep us beholden to foreign dictatorships can no longer be at the foundation of our economy.

Creating tax incentives for clean energy sources will allow these industries to flourish, and instead of supporting unnecessary tax subsidies for Big Oil, she will work to pass such incentives when in Congress.

Greening our economy is a no-brainer: between fighting global warming, creating green jobs, and saving consumers across the board, this should be a priority in Congress.

Jane Mitakides intends to be a leader in Congress, and that starts now by having a campaign that takes responsibility and utilizes real solutions for our challenges.

OH-03: Turner makes up controversy, Rangel fires back

Chris Kelly - Posted on 01 April 2008

Promoted from the forums because I love catching GOP'ers lying, especially in Jerid's hometown -DrTruth

Cross-posted from Jane Mitakides for Congress

What’s a Congressman to do, when the only legislation he’s passed during five years on the job renamed a Dayton park, when he votes as a right-wing partisan 87% of the time, and if he has a 30% rating with veterans groups? Especially when he’s being challenged by a strong candidate, in a now-blue district that went 55% for Ted Strickland?

Well, he could just make something up. Unless of course, the Chairman of Ways and Means catches him!

Turner accused of causing needless worry

Democrats say questions he raised about Delphi worker eligibility for tax rebates were unfounded.

By Lynn Hulsey Staff Writer Tuesday, April 01, 2008

Democrats are accusing U.S. Rep. Mike Turner of needlessly worrying former Delphi workers.

At issue are questions Turner raised about the workers' eligibility for economic stimulus rebates after he'd already voted for the bill that ensured the workers would get the money.

On Monday, March 31, Turner, R-Centerville, denied he misled anyone. He said he was responding to concerns from constituents and trying to change the bill to get rebate checks into workers' hands more quickly.

However, J. Jioni Palmer, spokesman for the House Ways and Means committee, said Turner sent no legislative language to the committee prior to final approval by Congress.

Turner's Third District Democratic opponent, Washington Twp. businesswoman Jane Mitakides, accused Turner of trying to create the "illusion of working for the people of this district."

"The notion that these rebates were at risk and then somehow salvaged was absolutely misleading," said Mitakides. "It's the legislative equivalent of turning in someone else's homework and taking credit for it."

[...]

On Feb. 1, a day after Turner voted for the House bill, he announced he'd sent a letter to House Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel, D-N.Y., and three other House and Senate leaders in response to concerns by former Delphi workers.

"I am writing to request that clarifying language be added to the Economic Stimulus package that ensures tax rebates will be given to workers" displaced by foreign trade, wrote Turner. He said workers' buyout payments should not count as income.

[...]

The next day Rangel wrote to Turner and said Turner's Feb. 1 letter was unnecessary because the problem "did not exist in the legislation that passed the House" with Turner's support.

"I'm hopeful that the misunderstanding did not cause alarm among Delphi workers who may have questioned their rebate eligibility," Rangel wrote.

[...]

Mike Turner did nothing but try to gain political points from a controversy he created. He voted for the bill before he had problems with it, yet offered no legislative language – because none was necessary. Maybe the Congressman from the Ohio 3rd needs a little lesson in the legislative process? May I suggest the following?

DEMOCRATS - Peace, not War.

ClarkDem - Posted on 23 August 2006

That is the wife of the man who gave us the mess in Iraq, a wrecked economy, and a divided nation.

Next to her is a U.S. Senator who brought dirty campaigning to Ohio to a fevered pitch in 1992 when he smeared a great American - John Glenn. He does not deserve to hold this Senate seat that Glenn once held, but U.S. Congressman Sherrod Brown does!

Next to him is the man who has helped to create loss of jobs for the 3rd Congressional District. A man who has spoken out time and time again that peace cannot be achieved in Iraq without the loss of too many American lives. A man who tries to block the advancement of science and improvements in medical care by blocking more funding of Stem Cells.

THOSE two men are the enemy....not us. We are Americans first and we should not be divided in our mutual effort to kick these bums out of office. They would appreciate it no better than for us to turn in and fight amongst ourselves.

Words like troll, Rovian, smear, attack, underperformed, etc. These all have been bantied about by all sides, me included. We all have taken personal attack instead of focusing on what matters, throwing the bums above and their cohorts out of office.

SO....Jerid, Staff, SusanD, ModernEsquire, etc., I apologize. I lay down my gauntlet and refuse to attack you any further. Lets discuss what should be discussed. Lets let Jane Mitakides, Dick Chema, Roosevelt Chapman, and Charlie Sanders set the beat. Lets discuss issues from this moment out. By issues, lets deflect character comparisons of any qualified Democrat and all four have earned the right to that distinction.

Our anger should be directed at the two village idiots above and these three :
