If (when) Cordray wins the AG race, Ted gets to appoint his successor. Any conjecture on the selection? Hugh Quill, the former Montgomery Co. treasurer (and now head of the Ohio Dept. of Admin. Services) who Cordray beat in the primary? Or is it high time for a minority candidate? Any other rumors?

Romer-Sensky has given Montgomery three donations worth over $600 in the past two years. I'm sure she can afford it, given the $10,000 a month consulting job Accenture gave her in exchage for the no-bid contracts.

Dear Ms. Romer-Sensky:

It is my understanding that you were recently appointed to a full seven year term on the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission. This is unfortunate in light of recent reports of your alleged role as co-conspirator in the Accenture (formerly Anderson Consulting) scam that defrauded Ohio taxpayers out of more than $60 million.
No doubt, you are aware of a pending taxpayer lawsuit in Montgomery County regarding this very matter. This suit alleges that, among other things, you sought, approved, and received over $37 million in unbid contracts for Accenture. In addition, Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge John Kessler recently denied Accenture��s motion to dismiss the case and stated in his order that, ��It appears that the defendant and its conspirators undertook a series of actions to defraud the public.��

When I voted in January of this year to support your appointment to fill an unexpired term on the Rehabilitation Services Commission, it was before this taxpayer lawsuit was filed and the accusations of your alleged contract steering had fully come to light. At this point in time with all the information available, I feel it is in the best interest of Ohioans that you not serve on this Commission and step down until at the very least the matters involved in the suit are heard in court and adjudicated.

As news of your alleged role in the Accenture scam continues to emerge, your presence on the Rehabilitation Services Commission will become increasingly objectionable to those Ohioans who depend on the Commission for their livelihood and well-being. I am sure you will agree, it is of the utmost importance that Governor��s appointees are above reproach. With that said I expect that you will do what is right and honorable and step down from the Commission immediately.

COLUMBUS -- Ohio Auditor of State Betty Montgomery is being treated for Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), an inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nerves. According to a statement from Montgomery's office, the condition is not life-threatening, but progression of the disorder can be unpredictable. Montgomery is being treated in The Ohio State University Medical Center's intensive care unit.

Posted on his website http://chandraforohio.com/ is his election night speech -- maybe a little long for webviewing, but interesting for many reasons.

He urges all of his supporters to do all they can to elect Democrats at every level, he is gracious about Marc Dann's victory, and he reminds us that the election in Ohio is of crucial importance to the nation -- and the world. He insists that Ohio's -- and America's -- best days are ahead, not behind.

Best of all, he makes it clear that we WILL be hearing from him again, that he WILL be back. I emailed him back to say I'll be there for the next campaign. Bet you will be too.

Subodh robo-call from Mike Coleman

Just got a very cheerful sounding robo call from Mike Coleman (followed by a brief message from Subodh) -- and if I'm getting it after 5:00 it sounds like maybe his campaign is hoping GOTV will make a big difference if the turnout is low.

And I saw a lot of his signs out today.

League of Pissed off Voters Endorses Sabodh....

Just got this in my inbox…It’s from the Columbus Chapter of the League of Pissed of Voters, a youth voting iniative. These guys are about the only ones left from 2004 still out there carrying the torch.

At any rate… They’ve got a nifty website, and have recently announced their endorsements. A few notables:

Subodh Chandra for AG, O’Neill for Supreme Court (“money and Judges don’t mix”), Jean Herendeen-Ackerman for House Dist. 21, and Jimmy Stewart for Dist. 22.

They cite Subodh, Jimmy Stewart, and Bill O'Neill as their “standout candidates.” They’ve also got a cute page about Subodh over there… Well worth a look.

Subodh has a letter in the Dispatch

Under the headling "Officeholder Ought to Have Some Outrage" is the following letter:

"Although I regret The Dispatch did not join the overwhelming majority of Ohio newspapers that have endorsed my attorney-general candidacy in the Democratic primary, I respect the newspaper's right to endorse my opponent.

I take issue, however, with one word in The Dispatch's April 22 editorial. By calling me intemperate, The Dispatch has misinterpreted my motivations and misled Ohio voters.

Intemperance is the lack of self control. I'm not intemperate. I am outraged. There is a big difference between the two.

I'm outraged because instead of using the law to protect Ohio familied from harm and loss, our last two attorneys general have helped auction off our state government -- and our future -- to the highest bidder.

I am outraged that last year alone, 1 out of every 71 families lost their homes to foreclosure. When Cleveland and Dayton passed ordinances to protect homeowners, Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro fought for the predatory lenders instead of the families upon whom they preyed.

I am outraged that he failed to protect Ohioans against the gouging and market manipulation of natural gas prices that cost consumers millions every month.

I am outraged that instead of fighting for Ohio's children, our attorney general failed to join other states to force the federal government to pay for its unfunded mandate called the No Child Left Behind Act.

I am outraged that while Ohio has continued to destroy its public-education system, our governor and legislature have failed to comply with four Ohio State Supreme Court rulings determining that Ohio's education-funding system is unconstitutional.

And I am outraged that The Dispatch apologizes for the failure of the last two attorneys general to enforce the law by insisting the job is limited to defending the state and its officials against lawsuits. Pre-civil-rights-era attorneys general used the same argument to resist the integration of public schools and avoid enforcing the law.

When state government acts unconstitutionally, Ohio's attorney general must act on behalf of all Ohioans. There is no excuse for the attorney general trying to defend the indefensible.

Republicans criticize my determination to make Ohio's school funding system constitutional as "unethical." The Dispatch calls it "intemperate." But what is unethical or intemperate about Ohio's chief law-enforcement officer actually enforcing the U.S. and Ohio constitutions? It is a fundamental part of the attorney general's job description.

And herein lies the problem. Politicians have treated the position of attorney general as an office to be held, instead of a job that needs to be done.

Ohioans don't need another politician with a law degree pursuing ambitions at the expense of their real clients, the people of Ohio. They need a real lawyer with a proven track record and an experienced prosecutor willing to fight to protect the public's interests.

Unlike my opponent, who can only talk about what he would do as attorney general, I can show what I have done -- from running a public law firm that slashed spending on outside lawyers, to winning recognition from the FBI director for my prosecution of health-care fraud.

This is my day for robocalls -- just got asked who I was supporting in the AG race -- but they didn't say who was doing the polling, and it was a recording, so I couldn't ask.

I answered anyway: Subodh Chandra.

Are there any laws on phone surveys? It seems to me that the caller should say who is asking.

I have had in my head an ad idea for Subodh Chandra. He seems to like funny ads with a little bit of an edge to them, so I think my idea would work great. Yes, I realize that there is not enough time for a new ad to be made, but my ad would be as follows:

Columbus Dispatch endorses Montgomery and Dann

This is what I expected from them.

The oddest thing is what they say about Chandra:

"This is the first elected office sought by his opponent, Subodh Chandra, former Cleveland law director and now an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Before that, as an assistant federal prosecutor, he received a commendation from then-FBI director Robert Mueller for ably prosecuting a major health-care fraud case. Chandra is an articulate, fiery candidate. His major accomplishment in Cleveland was reducing his department's spending on outside counsel from $7.5 to $850,000.

But his belligerent public statements indicate an intemperate personality.

Chandra said Tuesday that if elected, he would take the General Assembly to court to force it to comply with the Ohio Supreme Court's DeRolph school-funding ruling. In making the threat, Chandra apparently overlooked the fact that it is the attorney general's job to defend the state and its officials, not bring legal action against them."

I am interested in SB 7, which was recently passed despite the BWC fiasco. I emailed Chandra's campaign to ask for his view. I didn't get an answer, yet, but I got a response within minutes. The aide will ask and let me know right away. If he surrounds himself with people that good on his campaign staff, he is going to be a great attorney general.
