Strickland Starts Air War; Ad Lacks NAFTA Reference

Nick D - Posted on 24 August 2010

The air war in Ohio's governor's race is about to go statewide, and Ted has come out with an ad that highlights the revolving door between Wall Street and Congress and talks about how John Kasich made ample use of that revolving door.

One thing I don't see in this ad is any mention that John Kasich voted for NAFTA. I do see a graphical image of Mexico though, but I don't know how many Ohioans will look at that and associate it with NAFTA. Make it more explicit, Ted. Hell, if it were me, the Strickland camp would be printing bumper stickers right now that just say "Kasich voted Yes on NAFTA." NAFTA remains a HUGE negative for anyone associated with it, especially with the socially conservative union sympathizing households (read: Reagan Democrats) who make up the Mahoning Valley and Appalachian Ohio that Ted Strickland desperately needs to get to the polls and vote for him on November 2nd.

The ad is below for your review and comment:

Hey Nick, if Democrats wanted to get rid of NAFTA, they could; could they not? And if Ted Strickland wanted Democrats to get rid of NAFTA, he would let that be known; would he not? More demagoguery. Cheap.

I don't understand why the folks on this blog and over at Plunderbund touted this t.v. ad as some bombshell about to rock the foundation of this campaign as we head into early vote. This is the same content the Strickland Campaign has been pushing since the beginning of summer and nothing new has been brought forward. On the one hand, one could draw the conclusion that some of the bloggers on this site on are on the take with the Strickland Campaign given the lame suspenseful building taking place, but on the other, the main bloggers on both sites aren't pushing our gubernatorial candidate's campaign hard enough. Strickland needs to be releasing ads encouraging folks to vote FOR him not AGAINST his opponent.
Hey fellas, Lots of bad econ news today. I don't know if you saw, but Paul Krugman in today's NYT declares that the summer of recovery is no such thing. Pretty clear Obamanomics has failed/continues to fail. Are you guys allowed to acknowledge these or is that kind of thing still verboten by your Democrat politician overlords?
