State Senator Grendell Goes After Kennedy

State Senator Tim Grendell didn’t waste any time trying to break up all the tributes to Sen. Ted Kennedy after his death. Grendell went on a radio show where he had the following to say about him:

Grendell's clearly no fan, but...

Isn't just a bit possible that the 11 second clip you've put up here is a bit, oh, out of context? The reason I ask is the "Kennedy was also>" remark in there...sounds like maybe he was praising Kennedy's work before this comment, and trying to present a more rounded picture of what his legacy means. That, or he's just a jerk. While I'm as broken up about Kennedy's death at the next guy (I openly wept in Denver when he walked onto the stage, knowing it was the last time we'd see the Lion in public in that capacity), we can't simply ignore the parts we don't like. It would be like forgetting JFK, FDR, and WJC were/are womanizers, or that Lincoln suffered from severe depression. Was bringing up Mary Jo Kopechne on the day Kennedy died tasteless and classless? Absolutely. Is it a "grab the pitchforks" worthy offense? Probably not.

I Don't Completely Disagree

This is the only 11 seconds I've heard. It's what the radio host wanted to go around.

But that doesn't excuse Grendell bringing this up now, just hours after he died.

Do you honestly think that today is the best day to bring up his failings? I am so tired of apologists allowing the GOP to get away with bloody murder because we want to discuss everything that is in their hearts as they said these things.

The fucking guy called Kennedy a murderer. You don't completely disagree with that? Honestly, I wish the Democratic Party would grow some balls and start calling the GOP out on this bullshit. This isn't the first time Grendell has done something like this. He's a wingnut hypocrite who isn't qualified to hold public office.

I think this is a grab the pitchforks offense. Screw this guy.

The part I disagreed with. The part I didn't disagree with was that he may have said something nice about Kennedy before, but read the end of my last comment.

He said Kennedy killed Mary Jo. Didn't say he murdered her. That difference is very important.

Relax, folks. We should be pissed off about this, yes. My point was 1) he might have said something less offensive in context, 2) it's shameful to do that on the day Kennedy died, and 3) who really cares what Tim Grendell thinks? The Right often doesn't handle these sorts of things with class comparatively (note the lack of rejoicing on this and other blogs when Robert Novak died a few weeks ago). I just think we shouldn't let Grendell & Co. spoil our mourning of Ted, and we should enjoy the moral high ground while we have it. Grab your pitchfork if you want, but I'm going to ignore this nonsense.
