Sloat Wants Your Good News

This sounds like a fun topic. I'll let this one hang at the mast for a little while. -Jerid

From The Daily Bellwether:

"CINCINNATI (TDB) -- Gov. Ted Strickland is a psychologist by training -- he holds a Ph.D. And he thinks Ohioans are too down on the state where they live, which is a far better chunk of geography in the American landscape than many Buckeyes seem to recognize. He used a term that means melancholy in nature, or funk.

'We've got a case of the blues. I don't think we're as proud of ourselves as we need to be.'

...

Now: A proposal for the entire Ohiosphere, right, left or down the middle. Can you all post an item within the next 24 hours that brags about our home state? That sells it to the rest of the world, and to Ohioans themselves."

My "I Love Ohio" Spot

I'm from Southwest Ohio. My hometown's "The 'Burg"...Miamisburg, OH.

Since I left for undergrad in '01, I don't get back to the Burg that often - just a few times a year. Most times I seem to get in after dark, and I always make a bee line straight to Mound Park for my tradition (before I stop by Mom's house even - she's not a fan).

The first night home I always spend 10 or 20 minutes on top of the Miamisburg Mound at night, looking out into the valley over town (not the mall area, but the true blue downtown with the old shops, and neighborhoods). Growing kids would sled at the golf course next door, or take field trips at the end of the year to the park. Heck, while I was in high school I'd take walks with girls up to the mound to see the Llamas after dark (they had llamas on the mound in the summer to eat the grass. They got rid of lawnmower for fear of erosion). The Burg's a great example of Ohio, and why I'm happy to stay here.

PS.

The park is closed after dark. So no one tell Naugle I like to do that. Shh.

Everyone hates Ohio

Nevermind. Guess Strickland was right. Thats what those winters will do to you.
