Senate Republicans Make Haphazard Last Ditch Budget Offer

David Potts - Posted on 01 December 2009

With the pressure mounting and opposition starting to crumble, the State Senate Republicans have put forth a new budget deal offer.

In a desperate attempt to not look powerless though, they’ve tacked on prison and construction reforms into the bill. As these issues haven’t really had any debate, it’s a very foolish move and plays right into Democrats hands. In exchange, they’d still only provide 5 votes for it.

And it looks like they’ve also given up on wasting more state money on religious schools and scrapping the all day every day kindergarten requirement.

No debate on prison reforms?

First, it's reform on prison AND criminal justice issues.

Second, those same reforms were introduced in the Senate & passed out of committee after multiple hearings.

Want to know what's holding up those reforms? Call Armond Budish's office & ask him. He knows.
