Sarah Palin- Serious Candidate or Cynical Gamble?

Well, the 'ol Maverick has counter-punched from last night's flurry of combinations by Obama.  Did it land?  Was it enough to get the judges to score the round even?

Listening to the female anchors on CNBC, it's easy to see the gender issue forming up.  Comments from the women were appalling to me, but I'm a guy.  Hearing their impressions about Palin being a "real woman in a dress instead of a pantsuit" almost spilled my coffee as my jaw dropped into the cup.  "She's the commander-in-chief of Alaska's National Guard" and "She's an energy expert, dealing with the oil companies".

Her congrats to Ferraro and Clinton for putting the 18 million cracks in the ceiling seem to set her tone- a tone that Rethugs always use to get people to vote against their own interests.  This seems to me to be a way of peeling some of those 18 million votes away from Obama by playing a gender card.

Her experience as Governor- well, there is more federal money per capita funneled to Alaska than any other state, there is no state income tax because of the oil revenue (state residents actually get a check every year from the state distribution), so how exactly does that relate to having  to work from a tax base?  

Her experience as Mayor- one of the commenters on MSNBC pointed out that the hall where she was introduced had twice the population of the town that she ran.

So McCain couldn't buck Rove by selecting Lieberman and couldn't fight the right-wing on Ridge's pro-choice stance, so now he has a staunch conservative, pro-lifer......in a dress.
