Robin Weirauch Takes Another Shot At OH-5
H/t to a reader.
Robin Weirauch, Assistant Director for the Center for Regional Development at Bowling Green State University has decided to make another run at OH-5. In 2004 Weirauch, from Napoleon, OH, was the nominee in the 5th district against Paul Gilmoor garnering only 32.95% of the vote. Two years later she was driving her brightly colored "Weirauch for Congress" Ambulance in the district again, this time caputring 43.15% of the vote in 2006.
Yea, you read that right. In the span of two years she picked up close to 10% points.
Now she's off to a start for 2008. Currently raising funds and hiring staff, Wierauch has Paul Gilmoor in her sites again.
OH-5 is exactly the sort of district that Democrats need to campaign in to keep the GOP unstable. Long written off, any inroads, let alone a win, throws Republicans for a loop. Also, they notice the progress Dems like Wierauch are making in these "red" Districts, and they understand the serious challenges these candidates pose against their incumbents. Instead of channeling money into their top tier challenges, like OH-18, strong campaigns like Robin's force the GOP machine to defend their home turf. And you never know - with the progress that folks like Weirauch have made, and the political climate - we might just pick up an OH-5 here or there.
close, but no tasty cuban cigar...
who was the consulting firm that did such great work? 10% in 2 years. not a targeted race... no national, state, or local support...
seems like they never get the bump from bsb...
