Robert Portman Has Another Bailout Connection
So do you guys (and gals) remember the first round of bailouts? The ones back during the Bush Administration that were poorly controlled? You know, when all the money was spent on thing like golf trips and executive bonuses? Well I'd like to tell you all a little story about that.
A long time a go, inside a beltway far far away, there lived a man named Robert Portman. As you may already know, Portman was once part of a tyrannical empire known as the Bush Administration. During his time working there he bungled not one, but two different issues: the budget and trade.
However today we're dealing with what Portman did after leaving the Bush Administration. After Portman decided he had done all the damage he possibly could working for the man, Portman made the jump to the private sector. This is a longstanding process were people who used to be in Government are offered cushy, high paying jobs in the hopes that they'll get some of their friends to send business to their employer.
It seems Portman kept up his end of the bargain, because after being employed by the law firm Squire, Sanders, and Dempsey; they were given an important government contract.
Can you guess what it was?
They were one of two law firms picked by the Bush Administration to guide businesses to apply for that first bailout. Yes, that's right. Despite Portman's anti-bailout rhetoric, he gladly accepts $800,000 a year from a company that was up to its ears in it!
It’s just another example of Robert Portman benefiting from something he claims to oppose.
