Redstate.com showing tip of iceberg/meltdown in OH-05
Back in 1992, I was NW Ohio field coordinator for Clinton/Gore. NW Ohio then was so red, it was the only place W's pappy would dare to campaign in 1992 (great war stories from that gig, btw).
The GOP today in OH-05, the core of NW Ohio's GOP dominance, looks to be in total meltdown, civil war, you name it. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a group of GOPers in OH-05 right now for fear of a brawl breaking out. Just look at Redstate.com, the righty equivalent (word used generously) of Kos.
The GOP's candidate for OH-05 HIMSELF posted at Restate yesterday (thanks to a commenter for pointing this out) and got either nothing in response, or disdain. In a grand total of 3 comments. Three! Some loonie just posted there today about how Bob Latta loves abortionists. The front pagers of RedState, and just about every other righty blog in the country (not to mention our own lovable RABid), have been utterly silent about this race, and when they're not, they're bemoaning how Latta isn't a true conservative.
National media have been sniffing around, and they're seeing the same thing too. From Congressional Quarterly....
A Weirauch victory would be a stunning upset, given the generic political leanings of the 5th District. In the current 110th Congress, just seven House Democrats represent districts that gave Bush a greater share of than in Ohio’s 5th, where he won 61 percent of the vote.
Even if she loses, should Weirauch make a strong showing the Democrats will point to the race as evidence that they can continue to compete in Republican-leaning districts like Ohio’s 5th — and that they made the cash-strapped NRCC spend several hundred thousand dollars from its limited treasury in a race they should have won easily.
If I were a reporter on a political beat, I'd get my ass out there and start sniffing around, because it looks like history is gonna be made. Courtesy of the GOP war within itself.
