Ohio News Station Uncritically Gives A Bigot Air Time

Tim over at Blogger Interrupted has found a news video that might raise some Obama supporter’s eyebrows…

I can't figure out how to keep the video from auto-playng, so it's after the break.

Wow, just wow. Did you see that woman? Lady, if you happen to read this, as a rural American I’d like to thank you. You’re efforts to further spread the “white trash” stereotypes goes above and beyond.

But seriously, are people really still falling for the email smears? The Obama campaign has done a pretty good job of proving them wrong, even offering a flyer (PDF) on their site aimed specifically at these smears.

“Let's make clear what the facts are: I am a Christian. I have been sworn in with a Bible. I pledge allegiance and
lead the Pledge of Allegiance sometimes in the United States Senate, when I’m presiding…in the Internet age,
there are going to be lies that are spread all over the place. I have been victimized by these lies. Fortunately the
American people are, I think, smarter than folks give them credit for.”

– Barack Obama, Democratic Debate, January 16, 2008

I really have to wonder, what was going through the heads on the news crew when they let someone repeat these false rumors on their broadcast? They didn’t even say a word about all the times these claims have been disproved.

Notice the contrast?

Notice the contrast of the people in Medina. The reasonable folks spoke as if they had an education. The person who spouted the smears appears to be what some have called a "low information voter." Personally, I believe when you fall into that category that you're not looking to be educated. You're relying on others for your news and opinions.

Additionally

I"m not a fan of 19 Action News, but it's their job to report the news, not judge what they report.

Exactly

You just made my point. How many people saw that on the news and think it's true? I think they have a responsibility to point out that this woman's claims have been proven false.
