Ohio GOP Realizes It's a Bad Idea to Threaten Bloggers; Removes My Mom's Address From Blog
Yesterday the Ohio GOP retaliated against me personally after I posted contact information for Chairman Bob Bennett. I originally posted the info so folks could leave a message with Bob directly, urging him not to drag the state through litigation, and resign his post as a member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
Their hit against me involved posting the home address and phone number of my mother Robin on the Ohio GOP's official blog. I talked to mom last night and needless to say she was a little confused. In her words, "Jerid, why are the Republicans doing this. I'm not the chairwoman of a state party or a member of a hopelessly incompetent board of elections." Ok, maybe those weren't the words of momma Kurtz, but you get the point.
Regardless, I assume Jason Mauk, the executive director of the Ohio Republican Party, wrote the text in the following screen shot. My assumption is based on the fact that he has been identified as the anonymous Ohio GOP blogger in the past. Jason, why do you hate my mom?

(At this point I've scratched out a bit of the address, momma's orders)
Well, after leaving my mom's address and phone number online for close to 8 hours it's now gone with only a lame reference to me getting a life. Thank you very much folks, I have one. Still, I've got to ask why Bob Bennett, Jason Mauk, and the Ohio GOP felt it was appropriate to post this information online. An even more interesting question is why did they feel guilty and later remove the information in the dead of night?
I had a clear purpose when I posted Bob's info - to put him directly in touch with folks that disapprove of his decision to cause waves and further harm Cuyahoga County elections. I assume Bob's decision to post my mom's address and phone number was to threaten me. I also assume they took the address and phone down around 1am last night so that the media would not notice the post when they came into work the next day.
Well, Bobby, the plan didn't work - and momma Kurtz and I forgive ya' (she says you're still welcome over for Brownies and stuffed shell pasta anytime, as long as you're not an asshat again).
Folks, there's still time to let Bob know he should resign his post. Feel free to give him a call: (614) 228-6636

Nominate the ORP for Porker of the Week
With Eye on the Statehouse. I know they're not exactly the statehouse, but it's fair to say their leadership in the statehouse confers with them on a regular basis. And I would say that the time and energy being spent and about to spent on Bennett, not to mention the time and energy spent posting your mother's info is a disgrace, embarassment and possibly unforgiveable. Aren't jokes that include "your momma" like, the worst you can say to someone?
Frankly, Bob Bennett owes your mother an apology, and if this behavior is characteristic of how the Ohio GOP behaves, they better be prepared for a serious lashing in '08 and losing that statehouse they're supposedly trying to watch. Ohioans overall are decent folks and will not stand for such immaturity.
As a mother, we're strong - we can handle it. But knowing that they got at her to get at you is disgusting.
