Ohio Democratic Party Update and Podcast

Glad to see some interesting content from the ODP. Promoted from the forums. -Jerid

After the tremendously successful 2006 election cycle, the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) is back in full swing and building for 2007 and 2008. To lead our 88-County program, Doug Kelly has recently joined the ODP team as Executive Director. Doug brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked through five presidential elections and ten years at the Democratic National Committee serving as Research Director and Technology Director.

Listen to a podcast interview from the Ohio Democratic Party with featured guest Doug Kelly, Executive Director of the Ohio Democratic Party.

Ohio is going to be the deciding factor in the presidential election in in 2008 and we need to build upon our gains and expand our grassroots effort for 2007 so we have the infrastructure to win in 2008.

Here are a couple of our upcoming events:

On April 28, 2007, ODP will join the DNC in inviting Democrats across the country to come together to continue their work of the past two years. Ohio Democrats will hit the streets to talk with our neighbors about how they can get involved in electing a Democratic president in 2008.

On May 12, Democrats from across the state will gather in Columbus for the Ohio Democratic Party’s Annual State Dinner. The dinner will be held at the Celeste Center at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Senator Hillary Clinton will be our special guest for a great night of Democratic politics.

The focus should be on state legislative races

The IDP needs to remember that the national party will help the Presidential and congressional races. The focus should be on county commisioner and state rep and senate races. It is the local races which will drive out turnout and ultimately victory for dems on all levels. If there is one thing that I have learned about Ohioan's is that except for a few bloggers most of them are local and think in that fashion. National and global issues come after property taxes and fixing roads.

Franklin County

Anybody know what happened to the Franklin County Democratic Party web site? What/Who is "Blue Utopia"? http://www.fcdp.org/

Blue Utopia

Is one name of the Ohio Democratic Party's blog. The name doesn't show up many places, but it's attached to the RSS feed, among other things. As for the fcdp site, it's been down at least a week now, but it didn't appear to have been updated since November before it went down, so if you need some info, a cached copy should be sufficient.

ODEMS

I have been working on a community web system called the Ohio Democratic Electronic Media System (ODEMS). We are working with Blue Utopia to connect county parties and caucuses into one community system where we can share rss feeds, podcasts, events, images etc. Franklin County is one of the first wave of counties to sign on. We are working to launch the first wave right now.

I will go into this more later if folks are interested.
