Ohio 12th Senate Dist.

IT IS WHAT IT IS - Posted on 30 November 2006

The Ohio 12th Senate dist. is up for grabs now that Jim Jordan has moved on to congress. As of Tues. at 4pm all interested in being considered for that vacated position were to have their resumes and applications into the Senate screening committee. It was reported that the following people have submitted and wish to be considered. Keith Faber (current House Rep) Celina,Derrick Seaver (current House Rep) Minster, Gene Krebs (former legislator) Camden, financial advisor Robert Luckey III of Sidney, attorney Vincent Foulk of Urbana, Toni Slusser (field rep of Sec of State Ken Blackwell) of Celina and Kreg Allison of Sidney (worked on Greg Hartmans Sec of State campaign).
The two front runners of course are Seaver and Faber, both out actively seeking support.
All but 2 counties have come out to endorse their choices .....before Tues. deadline. 2 others did Tues. night....yes you read right , they endorsed before the full list of hopefuls were slated. So what kind of choice did the other counties make? A choice of the best possible person for the job, or a total disregard of who was in the race(which they didn't even know yet) and picking their local guy or gal. And under what format were they picked... well here are some examples of how the counties came to their learned decisions. Allen... full central committee... oops nope a hand chosen few chairman Chaney decided to call, and even then word has it there was a one vote difference.... not 2/3. Shelby... this is good ...can you say 4 voters with one name on the ballot...hummmmm .Mercer... oh, here you have to be present to request the endorsement (even though 2 other counties were suppose to endorse the same night)... 1 name on the ballot and it still wasn't unanimous. Auglaize...I know ...I'll call everyone personally to find out what they think, ( humm quorum, meeting, ballots.. who needs them) Darke...almost got it right guys, one vote, multiple candidates, need not be present, secret ballot, top 2 vote getters .... vote again....oh heck lets just do a show of hands and make it unanimous......you were so close guys....Champaine....bingo we have a winner, well kinda...presentations made in front of screening panel... Q&A to full central committee... so far so good.... go behind closed doors.....come back out ....we have a winner.. anybody have any idea how it came to be?
Guess what, we are suppose to be selecting the best person to represent us as State Senator in Columbus, not picking captain of a sandlot baseball team. If everyone had done enny meeny miny moe at least they all would have done the same thing.
I sure hope that the Senate caucus takes no credence in county endorsements and picks who they think will be the best legislator. The counties played the my guy is better than your guy .....well because hes my guy...of course. Guess what county chairs..... there are 7 ...count them 7 possibles. By the way no one but Seaver and Faber received nods from counties, hard to believe that none of the other 5 have qualities to be a legislator. hummmm. Obviously the ORP needs to set uniform rules if they are going to have county power brokers help in the governing selection process. Or at least wait to ask for endorsements till everyone is in the race! Come on Bob Bennett you should have been on top of this one, its not like this is the first time this has happened. Senate leadership.... a note to you...listen well....deliberate long...discuss indepth....and choose wisely....we are depending on you!
