OH-House 93: And The Candidate To Replace Garrison Is...

It just keeps narrowing down. We started off very vague, narrowed it down to three people, and now I can confidently knock two of them off the list.

When we last left off, the three people on the list were:

  • Guernsey County Sheriff Michael R. McCauley
  • Marietta Mayor Michael Mullen
  • Washington County Commissioner Cora Marshall

I talked to Cora  Marshall last night and she’s definitely not running, deciding to focus on the issues facing Washington County. Word is that Michael Mullen also isn’t interested in a run, and I’m not sure he was ever even seriously considering it in the first place.

And that, of course, leaves Sheriff Michael McCauley as the only person I’ve heard seriously considering running.

Update: Marc Kovac from the Youngstown Vindicator reports that McCauley has also said he’s not running. Could we have gone from 3 candidates to none?

Ummm

Except for the person who actually filed for the race.

Who?

I haven't heard of anybody filing, but I've mostly been looking for people with regional support.

You See ...

People actually "file" a Designation of Treasurer (form 30D) for races with the Secretary of State. Turns out she has a website and everything.

Wow, really?

Did you miss the obvious attempt to dig for more information? Just because they file a deceleration of treasurer doesn't automatically make them a viable candidate.

Really

I don't *remember* using the word viable. It does, however, make them a candidate subject to filing petitions.

Candidates file and run all the time without being "viable".
