OH-18: Statement From Spaces Office

David Potts - Posted on 20 March 2010

I specifically had asked about what had changed in the bill to prompt Space to switch his vote from a yes to a no, this is what I got from Space’s press secretary:

"Congressman Space fought through this entire process to make sure that the working class families in his district did not have an additional burden placed on them as a result of reform. He has very serious concerns that this bill would provide a huge giveaway to the already bloated insurance companies out of the pockets of his constituents. That would hurt the working class families he represents, which is absolutely unacceptable."

i can understand a vote either way by dems, which is a bit of political evolution for me on this issue. i've now come to understand that this bill's defeat would be a catastrophic blow to the remainder of the obama administration and i'd hate for the teabaggers to get a win, but nothing changes the fact this is a very bad bill and space is correct in his statement of opposition.

what it all comes down is that the congressional dems did a really fucked-up job on health care, and obama showed no leadership whatsoever through this process. i guess the dems find themselves where they deserve to be right now, but the american people deserved so much better.
