OH-18: I Don't Think Space Is Human

David Potts - Posted on 23 May 2008

Zack Space actually showed up late this morning because late votes caused him to miss the last flight out of Washington last night and he had to fly in this morning. He apologized for this, but I actually think it was a good thing. Space was actually doing his job while many in his place would have taken the easy way out.

Later on after the healthcare and agriculture presentations, there was a break for lunch. Space, however, kept working. At some point during the proceedings I recieved an email announcing that Space would be holding a conference call today, during the lunch break.

You want to know why Space's district has gone from highly contested to safe? It's simply because the man never stops.

Hi David - I linked to the WaPo resource that lets you see who votes how often for the Senate and someone from another blog trivialized my kudos to the senators who have never missed a vote. But I also thought about how, for as much as I disagree with my own state rep on so many things, the guy works hard - I have heard it from others in the statehouse whom I trust and I have experienced it as well. And that is the best armor a politician can don to save his or her skin: keeping up a good work ethic. You just can't malign someone when they work that hard. You can still disagree with them, but even so - you cannot know their work habits. So thanks for this - I think it is really, really important to note.
It's not just the votes, it's also the time Space spends interacting with his constituents. I have heard of any other representative holding something like Space's Renew Ohio summits. Space's legislative agenda for the rest of the year (and hopefully beyond) will almost certainly be dictated by the results of these work groups.
