OH-15: Stivers Gets By With A Little Help From His Payday Lending Friends

Steve Stivers - A banking lobbyist running for public office at a time when the poor planning of banks leaves our country on the verge of an economic disaster.

Payday Lenders – Loans harks who pray upon the broke and the desperate by offering small loans with absurdly high interest rates, all while possessing ethical values and business practices that rival the mafia.

Seriously, it’s a match made in heaven! And it shouldn’t surprise you to know that Steve Stivers is setting up shop in a building that used to be used by, you guessed it, a payday lender.

I’m sure he’s not getting a special deal or anything…

Just like he wouldn’t let his former colleagues in the banking lobby finance his campaign. Oh, wait a second. He did do that, didn’t he?

"Of course banking lobbyist Steve Stivers and his friends would choose a payday lending office for a new coordinated campaign location. As someone who gave Buckeye Check cashing a $7 million dollar taxpayer giveaway and was one of only 4 votes against the predatory lending bill, it makes sense he would take over the lease from a payday lender to run his smear campaign."

-- Brad Bauman, Communications Director for Kilroy for Congress

And of course, be sure to vote “YES” on issue 5.

Payday Lenders Don't Mention "Payday Lending" In Ads

Can't say that I'm surprised by Stivers' move to utilize a payday lending office for his campaign. He's been pretty reluctant to come around on predatory mortgage lending and was likely reluctant to vote for HB 545 (to be fair, he did vote yes). That aside, we it's imperative that we fight against the misinformation campaign that the payday lenders have been running. Their television ads fail to mention that Issue 5 even deals with payday lending and of course we've all heard the myriad of reports that the industry's petition circulators were misleading voters for months. Seems payday lending is such a great product, they'd prefer not to mention it at all! This is an important election - it's time we all stood up against predatory lending of all kinds, starting with payday lending! It's a scourge on our families, our communities and our economy! Vote yes on issue 5!

I wonder if there's any

I wonder if there's any place nearby where the good Senator might do some "windowshopping". Dreamgirls, for instance?
