OH-16: Schuring expands his attacks against Boccieri over things that never happened

Either Kurt Schuring has bad sources or he, his campaign, and his surrogates are just pathological liars.

Either way, I'm convinced that Schuring isn't fit to serve if this is how he runs his campaign.  For the second day in the row, the Schuring campaign and its surrogates have attacked John Boccieri for doing something he didn't do... This time, it's attending a fundraiser in NYC... while Boccieri was campaigning in Canton.

Schuring's lies have gotten so out of hand, the Boccieri campaign has had to issue this press release:

Today, candidate for U.S. Congress John Boccieri (OH-16) called on opponent Kirk Schuring to issue an immediate public apology for reporting completely false information about Senator Boccieri to the press, and to start talking about the issues that matter to the people of the 16th District instead of Washington-style politics.

In a press release issued on August 7 entitled "Boccieri Attends New York Fundraiser," the Schuring campaign stated that Boccieri "attended a fundraiser in New York City Wednesday night." Schuring attempted to attack Boccieri for traveling to New York while Schuring was in Ohio.

Unfortunately, the Schuring campaign's assertion about Sen. Boccieri's whereabouts is completely untrue. Boccieri was not in New York yesterday - in fact, he was in Canton, Ohio, the same city Sen. Schuring won't come to because he "might be shot at."

"The desperation of Sen Schuring to disconnect himself with Washington insiders is revealing. He hassome nerve to falsely attack me about Washington politics while he has Karl Rove's group running radio ads for his campaign," Boccieri said today. "Maybe he was just repeating bad information from his handlers in Washington, in which case I hope he will have the honor and decency to admit his mistake, issue a public correction to the press, and promise to start running his own campaign from now on."

I hear Canton has a really nice Pro Football Hall of Fame there.

This is a day after Schuring's 101st Fighting Keyboardist Brigade began a completely untrue internet rumor about Boccieri being personally escorted by the Canton police away from the Pro Football Hall of Fame parade.

Which is the gift that keeps on giving.  Apparently, I touched a nerve with Ben Keeler of the "Keeler Political Report" (not to be confused with the "Associated Press" or any other responsible news reporting agency.)

Ben Keeler's has defiantly responded to my charges of backpeddling... by backpeddling some more.  Here's what Ben originally alleged:

After repeated requests, Boccieri was removed from the parade route by the police.

Now?

No one is denying that campaign workers were taken off of the parade route by the police.

How did we get from candidate John Boccieri was physically removed from the entire premises of the event to "campaign workers" were taken off the parade route, if Ben, you aren't backtracking?

And yes, Ben, people ARE denying it, and if you re-read my post, you'd notice that I said that the campaign itself told me that they were permitted to canvass so long as they stayed on the sidewalks and that they were given that permission by the event's monitors.

That would, to any rational person, suggest that people are disputing your assertion that the event's organizers and police "repeatedly" requested the Boccieri campaign to stop all campaigning.  Then after distancing yourself by proclaiming that this is just a rumor you heard and that you're not "the Associated Press," you go back to act like you still find this to be credible?  Seriously?!

I at least identified my sources as much as they would allow me.  It's someone who has first hand knowledge of the events in question and is with the campaign.  You claim your source is someone who "attended the parade," so it's not someone with knowledge of whether the event's organizers cleared the Boccieri campaign to canvass the sidewalk (as I reported they claimed.)  And in less than a day, you've already revised your reporting of what they allegedly saw.

So now you admit that nobody saw John Boccieri ordered and then escorted off the Pro Football Hall of Fame event grounds after all?  And despite the fact that you falsely accused him of doing so, you don't think you have something to apologize for?

Ben, this isn't a battle of spin.  There's the objective truth, and then there's your continued revision of the falsehood you've been spreading.  Now either you lack the brains or the morals to recognize that fact, or both.  The only person who is spinning is you with your continued revisions of what you said and what you claimed.

You should apologize to John Boccieri for falsely reporting that he was defiantly escorted from the Canton parade by the police when, apparently, your own sources don't bear that claim out.  You should stop suggesting that there was anything improper by his canvassing when, in reality, it was constitutionally protected political speech that was done with the knowledge and consent of the event's organizers.

Maybe you misunderstood what your "sources" originally told you, maybe you embellished a little for partisan rhetoric purposes, maybe your "sources" backed off their claims.  I dunno.  But any objective observer would see that you've changed your tune and got busted.

And for what?  So you could attack a Democrat for campaigning at a parade?  Do you really think that matters to the voters?  Get real.
