OH-15: Hamlet Petro, To Run Or Not To Run. No..Wait..Yes!

Earlier today I reported that the Franklin County GOP had approached Jim Petro with an offer to run for Congresswoman Deb Pryce's seat in OH-15. I also reported that Jim Petro had turned down the Franklin County GOPers.

Well, word has trickled down to me now that Jim Petro has CHANGED HIS MIND! Originally he told Doug Preisse "No" on the offer, but hours later recanted and agreed to run. Sounds like a real champ dedicated to this race.

Waffle King, Jim Petro

Petro's not even officially in the race yet, but he's waffling like crazy. It really makes you question the GOP's talent when they can only get someone half committed to the race.

Some enterprising reporter out there should ask Jim why he said "no" first, and what made him waffle over into the yes column.

ODP's got some questions of their own, too...

And in honor of Jim's indecision, a little music for his evening...

Petro is too far right for Ohio 15

Wade Steen, Upper Arlington City Councilman and former Franklin County Treasurer is the right mix for the 15th Ohio Congressional district.

steen was beaten

county wide by cordray in 2002. he is a right winger as well and likely does not have the stature to take on kilroy and win

disappointed by negative attacks

As an independent who enjoys policy debates, I am deeply disappointed at how quickly this site and the Democratic Party attacked Petro with mud. A classy response would be, "we welcome him to the race, and look forward to seeing him explain how to make health care more affordable. We are confident that Kilroy better represents what America needs." But no, I read here that you are looking forward to having him as a "punching bag." And on the ODP site, they attack him for everything but policy. They even attack him for moving from Cleveland. A commenter there reminds us that the Cafaro district-hopping was more egregious. I'd add to that the fact that the frontrunner presidential candidate, Sen. Clinton, is a Senator only because she moved to NY solely because it was politically advantageous. I'm fine with that, as it's up to NY voters, but I can't stomach the hypocrisy of attacking lesser versions just because it's the other party. I was turned off by the mud between Pryce and Kilroy, and couldn't stand either of them. If Petro goes that route, I'll hate him, too. But if the Democrats have nothing to over but childish attacks, I'm certainly not voting for them.

Give me a break

We know where Petro stands on everything. Maybe you forgot his infamous "I'm more Christian than you" Ad during the gubernatorial.. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051129/NEWS09/511290412

avoiding the question

I asked why everything was so negative, and I said I thought the carpetbagging charge was hypocritical. And you respond by saying his religious ads were nuts. Fine. Then I might not vote for him either. But I don't hear you responding at all on how bogus the carpetbagging attack is, and I suspect that's because there's no defensible answer to that, other than that the ODP -- just like the ORP -- throws in everything including the kitchen sink when they attack. I will be impressed by your independence if you just admit that that particular charge is bogus. Or come up with a plausible reason to distinguish Petro from Cafaro and Clinton. Or you can just change the topic and attack on some other ground. Your call.
