OH-03: Mike Turner Would Like You to Know He's a Douche Bag

I know, I know, I know...strong language. However, Congressman Mike Turner put on a show during a House Armed Services Committee this morning. It's actually pretty ridiculous.

Specifically, Turner goes on a passive aggressive binge to try and discredit Lawrence Korb during committee. Turner's big problem with Korb (other than the fact, you know...Korb's testimony supports the fact that the escalation isn't working) is that he doesn't like it that Korb uses the title "Doctor" and that he bills himself as an expert on military issues.

How does Turner attack Korb? Well other than straight up slander, Turner declaratively assaults whether Korb has a PhD at all (he does). After that, Turner lectures Dr. Korb on the use of citations in his prepared testimony. Seriously, a United States Congressman spends a couple minutes lecturing a PhD on the use of citations. I mean c'mon. I think I'm gonna go with the PhD and former Assistant Secretary of Defense over the MBA on this one. And as Korb starts to respond to Turner, the Congressman gathers his stuff to walk out on the testiomony until asked to sit by the Chair. It's quite a little cry baby sight.

Most importantly, this little brouhaha reveals one of the biggest characteristics Dayton insiders can tell you about the Congressman: he's a complete and utter prick. No seriously. From county commissioners, former Turner campaign staffers, to those that worked under Turner as Mayor of Dayton, folks in southwest Ohio know Mike for his bad manners, chauvinism, and quick temper. However, it's nice to catch it on camera instead of just relying on hearsay (thanks Mike). Why are Republicans so mean?
