Dayton Daily News: Connie Schultz-Montague has a "wonderful Pulitzer, Schmulitzer moment"

Alan Harvard - Posted on 25 April 2006

If only her husband were a plumber.

Or a pharmacist.

Or a pediatrician.

Or just about anything but what he is:

A politician.

I feel ya.

I was praying that no one here noticed that article.

this article is vomit inducing.

Normally I stay out of this type of thread but today I'm feeling a bit "friskier" than normal.

So, I think Connie taking a leave was the right thing to do given the way things are today and with the way she loves her job probably a very difficult thing to do.  It's also obvious that she does love Sherrod and he loves her.  Politics aside, from personal experience it is difficult to find your soulmate and having found mine?  I'll gush about how wonderful he is and how much I love him if necessary and the fact that despite him being a conservative and even admitting he voted for Bush that I still love him.  I wonder about his logic at times but hey he picked me so he's got that going for him.

The article while a bit smaltzy is accurate, if Sherrod was anything but a politician Connie would have never been placed in that position where she had to make a decision. I think it's a shame that it came to that, it's not like she was a political journalist.  Yet we don't seem to let the spouses of politicians evade the same microscope that we place candidates under.  Hell we don't even give their children a break at times.  Personally I believe unless a spouse has a major criminal record, some sort of severe illness that will prevent a candidate from fulfilling their term or something along those lines that a spouse should have no bearing on a campaign.  Even if they become an active member of the campaign staff, I'm not basing my vote on a spouse.

Further, I like some of what Connie has written and my brief contacts with her have been both professional and enjoyable. She treated me with respect and was very well aware at the time that I was not a Sherrod supporter.  I will probably even buy her book.

:-)

the woman is getting more ink than her husband's senate campaign.  that is not by some stroke of luck, or because she is under some microscope.  she is courting this, she's on a book tour, her face is plastered all over sherrod's website, for god's sake she's doing book signings at ODP events.

connie is making herself an issue, she is the only one talking about how hard it is to be married to a politician, she is the only one who decided to write about it, i'm afraid she's put herself under a microscope.

Do normally try to get publicity.  Heck if people were interested in me I'd be promoting my book.  Which btw is a very nice book on Ohio History and my family.

:-)

I still stand by statement as my feeling on spouses and children was a general statement and not just specific to Connie.  I remember very well how the media treated Howard Dean's wife, as well as negative comments made about John Kerry's wife, President Bush's wife and even comments on the appearance of John Edward's wife as well as John Robert's wife and the list continues...

I realize Tim, you don't agree with me as to Connie and that's fine, you are entitled to your own opinion and you've had different experiences than I have.

Hopefully Sherrod and Connie won't be interviewed
