DeWine's Damp Squibb

staff - Posted on 20 March 2006

Brown can sleep easy tonight, DeWine's opening ad is pathetic.

Is he next ad going to have puppies in it ?

The DSCC responded to it

It's ironic that Senator DeWine is releasing an ad today bragging about being an advocate for children's healthcare a week after he voted to make it easier for insurers to drop health benefits for kids

I hate voting records, don't you ?

HEALTHCARE?

NO MENTION of 'REPUBLICAN"?

Positive to improve Name ID?

No talk of 'TRADE'?

Taking a bad vote and making it a positive?

CRAZY TALK!

How could ANYONE EVER HAVE PREDICTED IT!

There were no kittens in it! I wanted to see kittens!
Let's work together to retire Ken Blackwell from politics

mail my check to...

ok, i have to disagree w/ staff.  dewine's first ad is a home run (and it REALLY pains me to say this).  target women voters?  check.  no mention of icky politics?  check.  hot button issue w/ a clear claim of accomplishment?  check.  no mention of sherrod or gw?  check.

sherrod's campaign has a tough decision to make -- go negative (cuz it's true) and look nasty (read:  anti-children).  go positive (cuz it's warm and fuzzy) and, well, there is no contrast w/ the incumbent.

i'm beginning to think that dewine might run a positive, "outsider" campaign.

I think this is for the primary voters - pierce has him a little worried.

I think he is also baiting Brown to waste dollars with a response ad.

Brown needs to ignore it - it's utterly forgettable and no one cares right now.

i don't think pierce has him worried.  the more i think about it, the more convinced i am that brown might actually be doing better on the internals than the public polls we've seen.

he is definitely baiting brown.  but i wonder if brown planned on launching a primary tv buy regardless???

people are definitely paying attention -- in that perennial ohio way.  will they remember the ad?  no.  will they have a more positive view of dewine now?  yes.

the most telling thing about the add is the target -- its obviously aimed at married women, a group that bush successfully courted in 00 and 04.

he is worried about are the primary ones to be honest. We're just days away from the opening of absentee voting - and women are more likely voters

That's a pretty nice ad . . . the only thing missing was the flannel.

97X .  . . BAM

97X .  . . BAM

I'm cynical. When I listen, I think: what about the psycho meds that are being prescribed and then pulled because the FDA now says they can make kids kill themselves?  What's up with that?  How about the lunacy at the FDA with revolving directors?

Or maybe my kids just don't play enough soccer?
