Jerid, rather than fight, can we please be allies in this fight. I have no personal animosity towards you or anyone. I am just promoting a good friend who wants to run for U.S. Congress and who could be in a position to win this seat.
I know whomever emerges as the candidate in the 3rd will get 100% support, just as Studebaker did.
However, we aren't at that point yet. No one knows who is going to be on the ballot.
Jane is obviously an accomplished woman, but you have to be honest and admit her 2004 run was less than stellar, despite having $600k to spend. This is obviously going to give many people pause for thought.

Yes I met Jane there. And no, I don't live in the Ohio CD-3, I am just a friend helping a friend.
What disturbs me, is someone one here is already attacking me, rather than doing what we need to do.
Debbie Lieberman is a great candidate who won a County Commission seat. Let her do some great work there now that she is in that position.
As for the fact Mitakides lost. So did Stephanie Herseth (who got 42%) and Melissa Bean (who got 43%) and they came back next time and won. Residual challengers who are well financed usually can flip a district.
What does it hurt to unite behind Jane and let her have another go at it? If she loses....well she loses. But she'll make the seat competitive and that will drain more Republican Party resources that otherwise will be used against other Democrats.
And if Jane Mitakides wins, she'll make a hell of a Congresswoman!
"She lost the last election because the people of OH 3 didn't know who the heck she was. She will lose again, if she runs, unless she gets out among the people who actually have a vote in this district so they can get to know her and vice versa."
I'd call this the Capri Cafaro Complex except that Cafaro is actually now getting into the district (13th) among the people so that they know her for the next time around. After spending between $2-3 million, she's doing what would have helped her the first two times. That's called learning a lesson from past mistakes.
Again - I don't live in the 3rd and don't know Ms. Mitakides. Just making an observation.

is roughly the most honorable and forthright person on this blog (not that that says much, but bare with me here). The thought that she would smear someone is roughly on par with the idea that Dave Hickman will become bff with Bryan...

Jill, that comment was meant for SusanD, who I saw as attacking Jane by saying she cares about the "big boys" more than the "little guy" attack. I was not attacking you and apologize if it came across that way.
Look, as I said later, instead of attacking each other, lets train our fire on the Republican, Mike Turner.
Submitted by ClarkDem on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 1:05pm.
SusanD, you don't know whether or not I was on ground there or not. Also, what position were you in the campaign?
Fact is, Jane Mitakides is a friend. She does have support in all four counties. She is willing to fight for this seat. She can raise the money it takes to be competitive. She knows the district well.
To attack her on this board because you apparently support another Democrat is not how we do this. What Democrat do you think is better? What attributes and strengths do they bring to this race?
By the way. Your circular logic is killing me. Most people on this blog are attacking you, not Jane. You are acting like an idiot on here and frankly I think someone as respected is Jane deserves a supporter that isn't going to damage her credibility as much as you are doing.
Seriously, are you running for Congress again? Where at this time...Tennessee, Wisconsin, Arkansas or is it now Hawaii?
Submitted by Administrator on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 1:59pm.
Susan D volunteered for Steph. She worked her ass off...and she's worked her ass of before. I'll take a bunch of your crap, but you better watch yourself when you start insulting the volunteers who supported Steph, have supported past candidates, and will support future candidates.
Submitted by ClarkDem on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 1:17pm.
Come on folks. Do we all agree Mike Turner needs to go? Lets train our fire on him. Hell, when someone can fire up someone from another state, that should tell you something.
I met Jane Mitakides and I was impressed. She is knowledgeable, insightful, and honest. These are qualities I do not attribute to many politicians. She also did spend a lot of time in the trenches helping out good Democrats like Ann Richards, Bill Clinton, and Wes Clark as well as Ted Strickland and Sherrod Brown.
When I ran, she gave me financial and social support, unequivocally. She didn't scrutinize me and reject me because of some piece of gossip or poor choice I made in my life. She also put her faith in me.
Now, heres why an Arkie who is gay, progressive, and who does not live in the Ohio CD-3 cares so much. Because I know Jane Mitakides will make this race competitive.
She has the name i.d., the knowledge, the money, the supporters, the organization, the signs, the drive to get back into this thing. Maybe she'll win....I think she will. Maybe she won't, but she'll at least make the Republicans fight harder for a seat they had not figured at this late date having to fight for in Ohio.
Thats less money to Kenneth Blackwell and less money to attack with.
Thats less money that Mike DeWine can use to manipulate Sherrod Brown's record.
Thats less money that can be spent against Rick Cordray, Barbara Sykes, or Jennifer Brunner, or Marc Dann.
Thats less money funneled to help Joy Padgett try to beat Zack Space.

Once again....if there are other candidates, how can they be more effective and up and running?
Submitted by Administrator on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 2:10pm.
If you're trying to get Mitakides some friends in the Ohio Blogosphere, you're going about it pretty poorly.
Also, you called my personal cell phone because you want a cease fire. Look buddy, there's no war here. No target on Mitakides back or anything. If she wins the primary I'll be behind her 100%, Mike's a sleaze ball. It all comes down to the fact that I believe there are stronger candidates out there, and I hope they get in this race still. We'll know by tomorrow at 4pm who's in and who's out. Calm down and enjoy the race, and stop attacking my friends!!! til then.
Submitted by redenemy on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 2:35pm.
because it's easy, two, we don't really dislike him, and three, he messed with Jill, a fmr. Mitakides Vol, and you republican opperatives in one fell swoop... so we come back to one, it's easy.
Well, there - see what happens when a person who actually gets paid to write tries to decipher blog comments? I really should step away from the keyboard more often.
Submitted by ClarkDem on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 3:11pm.
Jill I never meant to attack you. I didn't mess with Susan, either, just defended myself and Jane. Finally, the way to win the District is with Jane Mitakides.
Submitted by redenemy on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 3:15pm.
wasn't a clear enough comment... RMC is right, it was a list, and the "you R opperatives" was directed at CD's assertion that anyone who disagrees with him is clearly working for the other side.
Submitted by ClarkDem on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 3:23pm.
RedEnemy, I can admit in the heat of battle, I can get strident. After seeing what dirty tricks the Republicans pulled, like sending an operative into Betty Sutton's campaign claiming to be a volunteer, I take nothing for granted.
Facts are....Jane Mitakides is the candidate who can win this district.
Submitted by redhorse on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 3:55pm.
I come in here thinking there's 30+ comments on the 3rd candidate bang up, thinking I might find great dirt, and find this? Hilarity.
For the record, I think Charlie Sheen should pull petitions in the 3rd, arguing in court that his residency is grandfathered. Emilio can be the campaign manager and Molly Ringwald the comms director. Or something like that.
Submitted by redhorse on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 4:31pm.
by dirt I mean wild, rampant, completely unfounded speculation and rumor. i just didn't feel like typing that out the first time.
Judd can fundraise, but I really think we need Molly's pristine airheadedness on comms. I mean, it would be, like, so cool if we could beat Turner and stuff.
I offer this: The campaign was totally professional and extraordinarily well run. Even as a first-time candidate, she raised WELL over what many locals expected, had national support, and took more votes in Highland and Clinton counties than her predecessor. Her GOTV, fundraising, and communications were top-notch. Bill Cllinton did an auto-dial for her the week of the election--THE WEEK OF A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, folks...That should speak volumes.
It hurts me, as a dem and a Jane04 supporter, to read what "sue" wrote. However, I can only assume that her time and experience with the campaign must've been short and limited, given her complete misrepresentation of both Jane and her campaign.
I look forward to giving both my time and energy to an intelligent, dynamic candidate who stepped forward in a time of need (when, as others pointed out, other locals did not) to ensure that the OH-3 would not go to a Bush-lacky without a fight.
PS. Jane NEVER went to Israel during the campaign. I should know...I worked in her finance office and would have seen the expenses!
Submitted by Administrator on Fri, 08/18/2006 - 6:04pm.
She went through 3 campaign managers...her first full time professional staffer, the legendary Tim Tagaris, left within a month of being on the ground, she spent thousands on flowers, and paid for professional movers to move her office on multiple occaisions.
Yup, run like clockwork. I think it's time for some fresh blood in this race...

Jerid go become a lawyer (since you left the campaign field to go to law school) and stop attacking Jane Mitakides. She's a Democrat and we should be united in attacking and defeating Mike Turner. I am sure if we put your life under a microscope, we could find negatives, just like myself and anyone else.
The fact is 3 candidates filed. Lets see how much money they raise in a week by next Thursday and what cash on hand they have and lets revisit this then.
You have to be kidding me! We need to get a better challenger than this.
As an aside...I hate perennial candidates. They are useless and just make themselves look crazy by constantly running and losing.
We need a big name for this seat.
I know it!
They've been tight for years.
Too bad we can't get Bernard Sanders to run . . . cause Sherrod would get behind him!
I know whomever emerges as the candidate in the 3rd will get 100% support, just as Studebaker did.
However, we aren't at that point yet. No one knows who is going to be on the ballot.

I know that this attack on Jane is not the full truth. But lets talk strength of the other candidates.
Who else and if so....tell their strengths and abilities. Lets not attack any Democrats on here.
Best Friends Forever...

Facts relating to a campaign are not attacks - and turner won't be the issue until after the primary.
I don't see Jerid making any kind of personal attacks at all - so your comment about a life under the microscope is off base.
Just because you guys are starting to *really tick me off*.
