huge problem with the zack space campaign?

i read this over at mydd:

Space's willingness to accept money and other forms of support from the very people that make decisions regarding election results leads me to question his ability to truly represent the people in this district and more importantly his ability to win a campaign that will most surely focus on ethics.

Socrates Space is a member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections, Zack's father, and a campaign supporter.

Gregory Bender is a member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections, and has given at least $1,000 to Zack's campaign.

Susan is the Chairwoman of the Athens County Board of Elections, and has given Zack's campaign the maximum contribution permissible.

Jacqueline Neuhart, the director of the Guernsey County Board of Elections, is actively campaigning for Zacck at events throughout the district as well as circulating petitions prior to the filing deadline.

Zack Space seems to lack the same moral conviction as the man whose seat he is running to fill.  It might be time to support someone else, who truly wants to serve the people of Ohio.

most of the county chairs as many of them serve as head of the board of elections.  They've been in charge of the boards and the dem's still lose so I have no problem with them giving donations.  You would have to preclude all election officials from giving money to any candidate.  Where do you stop, board of elections, poll workers, presiding judges.

Next thing you'll say is you want only non-partisan folks working all aspects of the election process.  It is just not possible.

Time to get real here!

Though i would like to see a reform whereby county chairs and vice chairs cannot also serve on the BoE's. And i would rather see the director and deputy directors being hired rather than appointed based on their actual skills to do the job.
The do not disagree post is to staff!!!

I think that all those on the executive cte's should be precluded.

The bigger problem is that voters who do not vote in the primaries are unrepresented at all levels starting at the local BOE's!!!

The most you get as an independent is to serve as a poll worker.  I'm not sure if there are any that are presiding judges.

There is a tremendous need for progressives to work the polls on election day and to be assertive to the dispicable actions by judges who just turn away voters instead of working with them to determine their polling place or ensuring that their provisional ballots are properly filled out.  All a judge has to do is forget to sign the p ballot and it will not be counted, a way to easy way to discriminate!

... are posting stuff that's not very helpful.  Maybe other people really go for snipey &/or misleading comments about opposing candidates, but it really turns me off.  Comments like "Sulzer eats peanut butter & mayonnaise sandwich!  Exposes corrupt nature!", followed by "Space's sandwich found to be mostly velveeta & jelly!  Not worthy of congressional office!" ... especially when there is often no documenation about anybody's sandwich habits.

If these were two tweedledum-tweedledee candidates & there were real problems telling them apart, then discussing details like eating habits might be understandable.  But there are real, major differences between Sulzer & Space.  Their backgrounds, positions on issues, supporters, etc are not the same at all.  Sulzer has done the Meet the Bloggers thing ... & I eagerly await Space's session with our intrepid Ohio bloggers.

Maybe I should just go with Jennifer Stewart ... grilled cheese with tomato is my guess .. yum!

I disagree with the premise that BoE or County Chair donations somehow "fix" this race.  However, the post does point to a needed solution -- a more engaged Democratic Party throughout Ohio.

After 2004, we have plenty of new Democrats who want to stay involved, but don't know how.  Granted, we're a few cycles away from these folks taking on massive tasks like BoE or County Chair, but we must find a way to shepherd these folks into the party.

The days when we expected a handful of old timers to do everything should be long gone.  It's unfair for us, as Democrats, to expect a few segments of our party to shoulder more than their fair share of the burden.

it makes me think of a campy cartoon character, and the names listed in this post just make it worse. Guess I'd better get it out of my system... *ahem*
Will their ship run aground on the mysterious world of Tuscarawas? Will the Athenians and Guernseyites welcome our intrepid adventurers with open arms, or are they playing a treacherous double game with the help of our hero's sidekicks Socrates and Bender? Tune in next week to find out, on another all-new adventure with Zaaack Spaaaaaace!
OK, I think that did it. It's probably a good thing I can't draw cartoons worth a damn, because there's just so much material there. ;)
I expect we will some some of that kind of material appear in campaign advertising.

BoE positions are political appointments. There would be something wrong if they weren't actively supporting the candidates of their party. It's fine if your saying fix the system as a whole, I certainly don't disagree, but this is much ado about nothing, as it has been going on for a long time. Let us not forget also, Space held off announcing his candidacy to his own detrement because his wife was running for a judgeship in Tusco. Co.

This post is the dumbest thing ever...

Sulzer's campaign is beginning to find out they don't have a chance.  That the $100,000 there candidate gave himself isn't helping him gain momentum so they have to attack Zack Space's own father.

What a piece of trash post.
