New Ohio Poll: Obama Moves Within 9 Points

The other day I mentioned I'd seen internals putting Obama within 7 points of Clinton (and was nearly crucified in the comments by Clinton supporters over the integrity of the poll...rah rah rah). Today a new Survey USA/WHIOTV poll closely mirrors those numbers, placing Obama within 9 points of Clinton.

Clinton 52%
Obama 43%
733 Likely & Actual Voters (3.7+/- MoE). Sampled 2/17 -2/18.

While comparing polls can lead to complications, I still think it's interesting to look at these break downs next to the last two Quinny polls released in February and December. Comparing those two polls I noted that Obama had made significant movement among women:

In the December matchup Quinny found women support Clinton over Obama 53 – 15, this latest release shows women favor Clinton only 56 – 30.

This recent surveyUSA poll seems to confirm Obama's positive trend with Ohio women.

Clinton leads by... 28 points among women

However, this SurveyUSA poll finds major growth elsewhere for Obama:

One week ago, Clinton and Obama were tied among men. Today, Obama is up 16 points. One week ago, Clinton led by 9 among voters under age 50. Today, Obama is up by 2 points.

Ummm...that's a ridiculously huge positive trend for Obama among men with two weeks remaining for that lead to increase. But Hill dog has her own base

Clinton leads by 35 points among seniors, by 30 points in greater Columbus, by 28 points among women, by 21 points among whites, by 21 points among voters focused on the Economy, and by 17 points among registered Democrats.

And Obama leads...

Obama leads by by 48 points among blacks, by 20 points among the youngest voters, and by 16 points among men. The two are tied in greater Cleveland, tied among Moderates, tied among voters focused on Health Care. Among voters younger than Obama, Obama leads by 5.

Regardless where you fall in the primary, it's undeniable that Obama is making significant gains in the buckeye state. And that falls in line with what I've always said...Every state's a Clinton state till about 3 weeks before a primary. Can't wait to see the impact that a Wisconsin win has here.
