UPDATE: New GOP Code Word for "Uppity Negro": Community Organizer!
Anthony from Blue Ohioan knocks this one waaayyy out of the park. CNN's Roland Martin got upset by this same thing, but I can't find the YouTube so I give you Anthony's words instead:
What an amazing night. Sarah Palin gets the opportunity to introduce herself to the country she wants to secede from and rather than show she's up to the challenge of being president, she and Rudy waste an hour tossing hate bombs and insults about Barack Obama. And the faithful loved it! The anger in their eyes. The screaming. It was all very nice. Like a lynch mob.
The highlight of the evening? The introduction of the newest code phrase for "uppity negro," Community Organizer! This is the hook to rural voters who don't understand Midnight Basketball, Block Clubs, and Community Development Organizations. They don't understand black churches. They don't understand why people march in the streets when the police aren't dispatched to their neighborhoods.
They want to make this hate vs. hope. Because, "if you're not with us, you're against us" worked so well with our allies, they figured it'll play really well back home. Ugh. Nothing like inciting a race war at a time when we need to be coming together.
Haven't we all had enough of this? Isn't this why Team McCain is bursting into flames? They've got no message, no agenda, no plan, so they'll attack with childish hate smack. I don't think it's going to play this time around. The base may love it, but the folks in the burbs are sick if the same old shit and I'll bet the rural voters are sick of it too.
UPDATE: Courtesy of JMatthewL, here's the YouTube of CNN's Roland Martin going off after the speech:

"And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves."
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.
We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco." ~Sarah Palin
Anyone else besides me listen to this and think, "Wait, didn't you just promise to tell us what your job entails five seconds ago?"
But I digress. Here you are sirrah.
JimDandy, I didn't say that the celebrity ad was racist. I said that last night, the GOP found a new racial code word to feed to racist Southern voters: Community Organizer = Uppity Negro.
For centuries, blacks who wanted to lead were accused of "not knowing their place" and were referred to as "uppity." The GOP has been straining to find a vehicle to articulate that message, and this is their latest one. Want to see one of their previous attempts? See below
I never said anything about your views on the celebrity ad. I applied your comments about the GOP convention to other unfound, mistaken cries of racism from the left. Please, please read what I write carefully.
And, I think his skin color plays nothing into calling him a snob. We did the same thing to Kerry. Lest mine eyes deceive me, Kerry is white.
let's say Oprah and Halle Berry or Beyonce and Whitney Houston? It was because two white women had more impact. Of course it was racist....what would you expect from the republicans?
You can shove your head up your ass as far as you want but don't ask us to join your stupidity
Use your head. Oprah makes significant contributions to society. She's more than just a celebrity. Halle Berry won an Oscar, but stays out of the public eye for the most part. Ditto with Beyonce. And Whitney Houston? She's still alive?
You're a pretty stupid individual. Who are the two most prevalent mainstays of the tabloids? Britney Spears and Paris Hilton any intelligent person would say. (Of course, I doubt you would say that). What two people get the most amount of press for doing so little? Britney Spears and Paris Hilton any intelligent person would say. (Once again, I doubt you would say that). The point of the ad was to show that Barack gets a lot of press for having such a lack of substance. Who else fits that bill? Not Oprah. Not Halle Berry. Not Beyonce. And definitely not Whitney Houston. It's Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. So, just butt out and let the individuals with at least half of a brain cell talk.
to use in the ad? Oh, how convienient is that. Gimme a break.
The ad was racist. Get your head out of your ass.
Paris, self promoter. Brittney Spears, succesful singer, dancer, entertainer Beyonce, succesful singer, dancer, entertainer.
What's your problem?
Try using a little intellectual honesty for once......that's a codeword for GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS
or for that matter 2 black males? Or 1 white male and 1 black male. How about Fred Thompson? How about Leona Hemsley's dog? How about 2 white males, 2 blak males AND Leona Hemsley's dog. Why 2 young white females? That's the only way that the ad will have an impression on the target group....which would be southern GOP racists.
for the record J.Dan, your name calling says more about you than about me. Grow up and fer heavens sake PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS
Hey Randy, I see you picked up your copy of the GOP talking points. I never said she should spend more time with her family. I questioned whether she should be accepting the VP nod when her 17 year old daughter is pregnant, knowing that her daughter's name would be dragged through the mud. The same could apply to any male politican with a pregnant teenage daughter. Surely you can see the distinction between the two.
As for the Uppity association, Georgia congressman Lynn Westmoreland pretty much removed all doubt with his comments today.
fathering a black child are the same ones that are starting this crap. It worked so well AGAINST McCain, let's give it a try against Obama? What, that concept is out of your reach? If McCain had any kind of decency he would have put a stop to it. He didn't.
this from Focus on the Family's James Dobsen (this kinda set JimDandy off on the other thread)
DR. DOBSON: Some women are able to maintain a busy career and a bustling family at the same time, and they do it beautifully. I admire them for their discipline and dedication. It has been my observation, however, that this dual responsibility is a formula for exhaustion and frustration for many others. It can be a never-ending struggle for survival. … Consider what it is like to be a mother of young children who must arise early in the morning, get her kids dressed, fed and located for the day, then drive to work, labour from nine to five, go by the grocery store and pick up some stuff for dinner, retrieve the kids at the child-care centre and then drive home. She is dog-tired by that point and needs to put her feet up for a few minutes. But she can’t rest. The kids are hungry, and they’ve been waiting to see her all day. […]
On weekends, there’s housecleaning to do, clothes to be ironed and pants to be mended. … A little push in any direction and she could go over the edge.
Appearently it's the religious wingnuts who are suggesting that Sarah Palin go home and bake some cookies for her family or even suggesting that if Sarah Palin had been home for her family she wouldn't have a daughter that was still in high school pregnant.....unless of course she could bring some votes to the republican party. How dispicable these people truly are.
I now read two political blogs (up from the last time it was suggested I had access to the GOP talking points). This one and a right-wing one (the right-winger recently commented on my blog, so he caught my attention). I get NO emails from politicians or parties. I do get an occasional email from the Pametto Family Council, which I delete if they are about politics.
I listen to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative radio talk shows on the rare occasion that I'm driving at the time they are on and I can't find a good country station - maybe once a month. I do read one Christian blog that sometimes gets political and listen to a Christian talk show that gets political. But the ideas that I posted were my own. I even turn off Letterman/Leno when politicians are own, I prefer to research the ideas myself.
When your comment used the word "uppity", alarms went off in my head. Your later comments sounded an awful like you were treating Mrs. Palin like June Cleaver.
Oh, and it looks like Rep. Westmoreland must read your blog. After all, those comments came AFTER yours.
“He stands by that characterization and thinks it accurately describes the Democratic nominee,” said Brian Robinson, Westmoreland’s spokesman. “He was unaware that the word had racial overtones and he had absolutely no intention of using a word that can be considered offensive.”
Randy, Westmoreland is a liar. As with the other racists in the republican party he has been using this term a long time.
