NBC Wouldn't Run This Ad
How is that a liberal conspiracy?
NBC is 80% owned by GE
Huh, an "oilman" that wants to keep dollars in the U.S.? Huh.
Pickens OWNS Clean Energy Fuels Corporation a natural gas fueling station and could benefit Pickens' company to the exclusion of almost all other clean-vehicle fuels and technology.
The SAME people you think are reporting news are selling energy.
GE has little interest in cars powered by anything but gasoline (or electricity)
What do GE gas turbine engines that power power aircraft, trains, ships, electrical generators, and even tanks? Not propane! Gasolina! (or coal)
Propane is produced as a byproduct of two other processes: natural gas processing and petroleum refining and bring nothing new to the table for energy except putting money into domestic production and into T, Boones pocket for distribution. However, there are pollution benefits from using propane BUT ITS STILL LARGELY PETROLEUM.
T. Boone Pickens talks wind because it only supplements THE SAME plants that we have now COAL FIRED....there is no storage capacity for wind or solar and plants coal plants cannot be brought on and offline quickly.
Electricity would directly compete with his plan for propane cars AND selling HIS transportation system and fuel stations.
This comes down to electric cars vs. propane cars. Electric cars would be fueled by COAL/NUCLEAR and propane cars would be fueled by natural gas.
"Pickens Plan" is a farce, that limits power plants options FROM nuclear to wind and solar power, that have enough output for electric cars because it doesn't not ever allow for CURRENT pollution spewing coal fired plants to go off line EVER (which means you'd still need coal and oil) it just makes sure that electric power plants cannot produce enough electricity to power millions of ELECTRIC cars. (Far superior to propane)
He is an oilman that owns most of the natural gas fuel stations in the U.S. Duh!
Oh! and you know who is a BIG investor to T. Boone pickens?
Yup, our very own Nancy Pelosi.
Didn't T. Boone finance Swift Boat Veterans?
Jesus.
Jesus.
Nick, please tell me you're not buying Pickens's bullshit. For someone who despises the direction this country has taken, you're agreeing with the man who helped take it there, and wants to keep it there.
Google Pickens with any of the following keywords: eminent domain, Ogallala, Oklahoma State University homeowners, Senate Bill 1, oil, George W. Bush. (Or you could also check out my post in the other thread, which is full of fun links about this man.)
Pickens cares about no one, and I mean no one, but Pickens. He will do whatever or whoever it takes to fuel his ego and his pocket.
Update
Pickens ad is grossly misleading.
Iran is changing its cars to run on natural gas because it lacks the infrastructure to produce its own gasoline. It is required to import gasoline for automobiles, and is required to use a rationing system. Even if it created the appropriate infrastructure to produce its own gasoline, its own supplies of crude oil are rapidly disappearing. Iran would still be required to import gasoline, just like the U.S. does. (Kinda puts Iran's drive for nuclear power in perspective, doesn't it?)
On the other hand, Iran has vast supplies of natural gas which are immediately available for consumption.
But anyway, NBC is showing the ad.Second Pickens update
To add more fuel to the fire, recall who Pickens has supported.
He was one of the largest bankrollers for George W. Bush as governor (when Bush signed Senate Bill 1, the controversial eminent domain/water rights bill) and as president. In Pickens' words: "military conflicts...will be terrific for my energy holdings. . . . I'm an Oil, George is an Oil man, and his VP Dick Cheney is an Oil man."
He supplied millions to the Swiftboat veterans campaign to denounce Kerry, promising $1m to anyone able to disprove the Swiftboat ads. When Kerry supporters disproved the ad, Pickens reneged on his promise.
I think the only reason he's approaching the Democrats now is because he has developed a new in-fad spin on his scheme, and he burned his bridges with McCain by staunchly supporting Guiliani.

Why?
