Most Democrats Want Cleveland Convention

David Potts - Posted on 29 December 2010

A recent CNN poll has shown that a large majority of Democrats think Cleveland would be the best place to hold the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Cleveland has been an underdog in the talk I've seen about the convention selection so far. While it is one of the four finalists, the convention center is scheduled to be closed during the time when the convention would be held for renovations. And while most of what you see on TV happens in an arena, there's events going on all over the city.

There's also been studies that claim holding a nominating convention in a particular state has very little actual impact on the way a state votes. If believed by the DNC, our advantage as THE swing state is pretty well negated.

In any case, we shouldn't have to wait much longer. The Republicans announced their selection of Tampa several months ago. The DNC had originally planned to reveal their selection before the end of the year, though that seems very unlikely at this point.

If you want more information about the convention selection process, the DemConWatch blog is basically the authority on the subject.
