Mary Taylor is a piece of work. She gets sued for running a racist push poll. The judge orders her to hand over the all the polling information to Sykes and allow Sykes to do discovery before going back to court.

Yesterday in court, Taylors attorney's agreed that Taylor would not run anymore polls during this election, and consequently Sykes agreed to dismiss the law suit. The Judge retained juristiction over the case incase Taylor renegged.

All seems fair enough, right ? Wrong. The first thing Taylor does is issue a press release

I am pleased that my opponent agreed to dismiss her complaint in Cleveland Federal Court. She previously filed and then dismissed a claim before the Ohio Elections Commission. Sykes' has done the same now in Federal Court because there was no legal substance to back up their press releases and political name-calling.

Lawyers for the Mary Taylor campaign for State Auditor agreed to stop conducting issue polling for the remainder of the campaign. The racially tinged push poll that Mary Taylor’s campaign conducted earlier this year resulted in a federal judge deciding to retain jurisdiction on the case to make sure Taylor abides by the settlement agreement and to ensure that they don’t engage in more race baiting campaign tactics.

“We are pleased with the Taylor campaign’s agreement to stop issue polling, which will keep them from using racial bias as a campaign tactic and conducting another push poll during this campaign,” Chris Redfern, Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party said today.

The Ohio Republican Party and Republican Candidate for State Auditor, Mary Taylor, are up to their old tricks again.

A few days after the Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman said he would spend “whatever it takes” to win, it appears the Ohio Republican Party and Mary Taylor are doing whatever it takes to smear State Auditor Candidate Barbara Sykes.

The Republicans used a poll with a race-baiting question. They used copyrighted footage from the State House floor to disparage Barbara Sykes. They even had the gall to shamefully manipulate her quote. On top of it all, the Republicans used this footage for a fundraising gimmick and called it ‘honesty’ in an e-mail to supporters.

These tactics are in stark contrast with our Democratic nominee for State Auditor, Barbara Sykes. Barbara has a proven track record of honesty, accountability, and compassion for Ohioans. Experienced and respected statewide, Representative Barbara Sykes was the first African-American elected to Akron City Council, and is currently serving her 3rd term in the Ohio House of Representatives.

Will you bring back honesty and accountability to the State Auditor's office by a contribution $100, $75, $50 or whatever you can afford today?

Against a backdrop of corruption, lies and distortions, Republican State Auditor Candidate Mary Taylor has also said she has “not done anything to communication (sic) with masses of people..." That is a startling admission to make after more than a year on the campaign trail, and a good reason for the people of Ohio to reject her unethical campaign.

If Mary Taylor won’t ‘communicate with the masses’ while she is running for office, how can we trust her to communicate with the public as state auditor?

Barbara Sykes is uniquely qualified to return integrity and accountability to the scandal-plagued Auditor’s office, having served with distinction for 12 years as Deputy Auditor for Summit County. As stated in an official endorsement from the Dayton Daily News, Barbara “has a varied background in government — six years in the Legislature and six years on Akron City Council — and she has a good understanding of the office's responsibilities.”

Mary Taylor is relative newcomer to politics. She was appointed to the Green City Council in 2001 (a city with a population less than 25,000). She is serving only her second term in the Ohio House of Representatives where she holds no Committee Chairmanships and votes with the Republican majority over 90% of the time. Ohio needs leaders, not followers.

We need to keep Mary Taylor out of the Auditor’s office. We need an honest, dedicated public servant and a leader who will take a hard look at Republican corruption.
