Kirk Schuring Shows His Neighbors His True Feelings About Them

Republican congressional candidate and State Sen. Kirk Schuring obviously has very little respect for the people he represents. At a John McCain rally in Ashland Corner Park last Thursday, he told the crowd:

"So the other thing I know is that Ashland County has a rich history and tradition of rallying around Republicans, and I was telling people earlier where I come from we could never have a rally like this in the center of Canton. If we did we might be shot at, but not in Ashland and that's what makes you so great."

It’s also on video…

Since Schuring actually lives in Canton, are we to assume that this means he supports strict gun control laws?

Stay classy Kirk

As a resident of Canton, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he just meant that figuratively since Canton proper definitely leans Democrat, but his statement is still shockingly idiotic. Canton's last mayor was a Republican, she didn't get shot (actually was a decent mayor, although she didn't win reelection)...something tells me that somewhere in his sub-conscious he was making a point about not feeling comfortable in Canton (maybe it's the Democrats, maybe it's the "crime," or maybe it's something else). By the way, I'm not positive Schuring technically lives in Canton. I believe he lives in Jackson, which would be like saying a resident of Dublin lives in Columbus. The mailing address might still be "Canton," but the difference provides the perfect amount of detachment that might help explain that comment.

OH-16: John Boccieri for U.S. Congress Comments

 Link fixed -- David

Check out what Major Boccieri had to say.

in todays Massilon Independent

Schuring's campaign manager is quoted as saying "Democrats are trying to run Republicans out of town." During the last election cycle Ralph Regula had (then) House Majority Leader John Boehner as an honored guest at a fundraiser. This was at the time it was reveled that Boehner KNEW about Mark Foley and as Majority Leader did nothing. I think that having Chester the protector of child molestors Boehner at his fundraiser soured a lot of people on Regula and the Republican Party.

Sen. Kirk Schuring attacked more than Canton, he attacked Civil

I am really surprised that the media only picked up on Sen. Kirk Schuring comment that, "Where I come from, we could never have a rally like this in the center of Canton. If we did, we might be shot at." What is truly disturbing was his comment that, “Barack Obama believes that our Constitution is a living document that evolves over time” and that John McCain believes “it [the Constitution ] should be interpreted as it is written.” Need I remind Sen. Kirk Schuring that if the Constitution was interpreted “as written,” Obama would not be considered as a citizen. Slavery would still be legal. Women would not have the right to vote. Granted, I am sure Sen. Schuring did not intend to offend anyone with his Canton comment, but we cannot condone his statement about Barack Obama and the U.S. Constitution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKGe34qlHUA
