John McCain on the Flory Rape Plea

I respect John McCain for his service to America, and for being one of the less rabid GOPers. However, respect aside, it's hard to overlook his campaign's association to Michael Flory, the former head of the Michigan Young Republicans and prominent member of the Senator's "Michigan Young Leaders Team." From an October McCain press release:

MICHIGAN YOUNG LEADERS TEAM ANNOUNCED

ALEXANDRIA, VA - Today Straight Talk America announced the formation of the Michigan Young Leaders Team. The team consists of 27 Michigan Republican young leaders, including the chairmen of both leading political youth organizations in the state.

Mike Flory Michigan Federation of Young Republicans Chairman

Indicted on 12 counts of rape, and five other counts including kidnapping, intimidation of witnesses, yesterday Flory pled guilty to sexual battery. The incident occurred at the Young Republican Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Pressed about Flory this morning, McCain didn't have much to say. You can download his comments, or listen below.

I await official comment by the campaign as promised by Senator McCain. Flory was someone brought into the McCain infrastructure, and is the latest in a series of embarrassing endorsement scandals for Republican presidential hopefuls. The biggest issue with these endorsement scandals is that these individuals were brought into campaigns - under official titles - to reach out to voting blocs within the Republican party. However, so far voices integrated to speak to conservatives have turned out to be addicted to prostitutes, local politico's symbolizing integrity have been been shown to be involved in drug rings, and the token GOP youth voices are rapists. For too long the GOP has masqueraded as the party of morality, that house of cards seem to be falling down this cycle.

God bless that poor girl Flory raped, and hopefully John McCain will let us know soon that Flory is no longer on the campaign's "Young Leaders Team."
