Joe Deters Going After Hackett

Administrator - Posted on 10 January 2007

File this one in the "I don't know what the hell to think" folder.

Apparently last year some hooligans crashed into the Major's fence. I've heard he takes personal pride in keeping the grounds neat, so no doubt he was outside within minutes. WCPO in Cincinnati says:

Investigators say the suspects told them Hackett chased them down and detained them by showing a gun until officers arrived.

A police report from the Indian Hill police department says the incident took place on November 19 of last year.

During a phone conversation Monday with Hackett, he told 9News that he thought the situation had been resolved because the suspects had paid to have the fence repaired.

To be clear, Paul hasn't been charged with anything. It sounds as if a substantial amount of time has passed since the incident, and our buddy Hamilton County Prosecutor (former GOP State Treasurer and scandal star) might be digging up dirt. We really don't know, and that's the heart of it. From what I read it sounds as if Hackett was just investigating his personal property, buy I suppose it'll be up to the Grand Jury to determine whether there are any possible charges here.

Since the GOP considers the endorsment of the NRA more precious than gold, and since the right to shoot and kill anyone you find threatening has been one of the NRA's main thrusts recently, doesn't he risk alienating this important GOP group by pursuing this? This should make Hackett an even bigger hero to the gun owners' rights crowd and pretty much demonize anyone who chooses to pursue Hackett for it.

Geez, this could be the basis of a Hackett campaign commercial down there.

"Paul Hackett. Tough on crime. Not afraid to stand up for second amendment rights".

I'd just like to note that there is no right to vigilantism~ I mean, I wasn't there, so I'm not judging, but from what I read, there was no threat to him and his family~ he chased down and "arrested" people, which if they are engaged in a felony that might be one thing, but I don't think we want private citizens running around with assualt rifles...

On the other hand, there is a case to made for a citizens arrest as articulated here:

Laughing

for campaign ad material of their own (just as I think their real reason for seeking a censure of Subodh Chandra for contacting Boards of Election to clarify the court-ordered ID rules was because they think he's a political comer and they wanted to be able to run big scary ads saying "he was censured by the court!!!!!") Unfortunately, I think it would/will backfire.

If Joe Deters ever runs statewide or outside Hamilton (if not even locally next time), Hang him for going afer a homeowner exercising his second amendment rights while protecting his property, not that I share such a vision of the 2nd amendment, but I've become cynical.

me of what the newly elected U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen told constituents" I'll see them again and they'll see me again," We should all remember this and let our outgoing Republican A holes remember it.

Never forget these scum bags because it's our turn at bat.

..and Hackett didn't even get the NRA endorsement in the House race.

Deters is a political hack and may decide to go after Paul. However, I don't think this will harm him politically. If you go to the Enquirer story and read the comments, most of them are positive.

As a OH-02 constituent, my impression of Hackett's intentions are that he's not likely to be a candidate in the near future. It appears that he doesn't care for the fundraising part of politics and may prefer to be the occasional part of a colorful, outspoken pundit who willingly comments on local or national affairs.

and anyone who was lucky enough to have seen the excitement he brings to the stage when he was out stumping knows that he has that magic that people love to see.

Just let him ask for money and I'll be right there with a lot of others.

...had a sherrod brown bumpersticker on it.
Reports have it that the driver went by an alias, with the last name based upon an ivy league school.
brown?  they went to brown?  my second cousin's retarded gay niece went to brown.  (oh, hell, please let someone else here love the family guy.)
