I'm More Christian Than You, Bipartisanship & Other Asst. Stories

The righties are havin' a tizzy again. This time they're claiming Strickland didn't correctly attribute a biblical quote in his inaugural speech...so that clearly shows he's a fire beathing, heathen, gay lovin', tax raisin' somethin' 'er other somethin. Kinda funny.

Their tirade gives me a chance to share one of my favorite stories from the inauguration today. At the beginning of the ceremony Reverend Fisher (I don't believe there's any relation to Lee) was supposed to lead us in an invocation. Ater the Reverend's name was called the crowd waited, and waited, and waited until the nervous laughter started. The Reverend Fisher was nowhere to be found! So the good Reverend Strickland saved the day and gave the opening prayer at his own inauguration (possibly a first).

Consider that in regard to the right's petty little attacks claiming scripture was misquoted. Pathetic.

Also, I spent the evening out last night with some nice folks whom it's an understatement to claim don't necessarily support the democratic platform. It was refreshing for me - a good reminder that despite our political views, and our flaws, we can all be decent people. Left me bubbling with bipartisanship. In that respect I think it's important to note something Ted said today:

The Ohio character is one that seeks to find practical solutions to mankind's most complicated problems. We have it within our historical DNA to add significantly to the ledger of human achievement. But that depends on our ability today, both as Democrats and Republicans, to seize the moment.

Ted backed his statement up with actions too, using his Inaugural committee's funds to print Auditor Taylor's picture with all the other statewides in the Inaugural handout.

We're out of campaign season folks; if the goodwill persists and compromise is true...there's no reason we can't get some things done together.
