I'm Madder Than A Baptist Preacher In A Strip Club

Yesterday, while all of us bloggers were trying to keep tabs on the developing Marc Dann resignation story, the Democratic National Convention Committee released a list of the 55 blogs, one from each state plus DC, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and "Democrats Abroad," to be part of the DNCC's Blog Corps. Ohio's representative in the Blog Corps was listed as YellowDogSammy's Ohio Daily Blog.

Now myself, David, and Jerid, along with Tim Russo, were all perplexed by this. The DNCC had laid out specific criteria for choosing the representative blogs, and on each of the critiera, (Technorati rating, traffic, blog age) Buckeye State trounces ODB. Trounces. Russo put up a series of posts highlighting that BSB has three times the traffic and double the Technorati rating of ODB, and that those numbers were even higher back in December 2007 when we submitted our applications to the DNCC.

However, BSB has learned from sources within the Democratic National Committee that the final word on which blog would be selected came down to the Ohio Democratic Party.

Now, I'm rather angry about this, and I'll tell you why. If the final call was going to come down to ODP, and by extension Chairman Redfern a.k.a. the Fern, why have selection criteria at all? The DNCC should have just called the Fern and asked him who he wanted to go, and had it over and done with. Instead, Jerid did a whole bunch of paperwork last December documenting BSB's superiority in the specified criteria for absolutely no reason at all, because at the end of the day, those criteria didn't matter, it was all about who ODP wanted. I should have known this was coming when the Fern gave me the brush off at this weekend's Ohio Democratic Party convention in Columbus.

BSB just got rogered good by the Ohio Democratic Party. And we won't forget it.

You think this might be related to...

You think this might be related to calling Ray Miller an Asshat? Have you considered that members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus might take offense to drawing a clown face on an elected leader? Maybe this offense is shared by members of the Ohio Democratic Party. I don't know; I'm just speculating here.

It could be that party officials do not consider this behavior to be "journalism," but rather hack tabloid crap. I would take a look at BSB's standards in the past to see if maybe state party officials have reason to choose one blog over another. But that's just me...

DNC Standards

So, not liking a drawing done by this blog's previous ownership is a reason to overturn the DNCC's selection criteria?

And yes, I have called Ray Miller an asshat, because he raised $0 for the Ohio Senate Caucus in 1Q08. And I care about that deeply because I think we can pick up two or three seats in the State Senate in 2008, and we must do that to have any hope of a Democrat-controlled Senate in 2010 to vote yes on a Democratically drawn district map.

My objection is that by the criteria the DNCC set forth, we should have been issued the credential. And my information is that ODP was the one who made the final decision and has lied to use about why.

Both Ways

So you don't want to be held responsible for the "previous ownership"'s actions but you want to get credit for their actions in terms of traffic etc. You do realize that that makes no sense.

I could see Jerid making the case for not winning, but he is retired, and even then it would come off as petty, jealous, and undignified.

There are two ways to handle setbacks: you can either learn from them and use them to grow into a better person, or you can sit on your ass and bitch about how unfair they are.

I recommend some personal inner reflection time. Ask yourself "why aren't we given more respect from the Democratic establishment?"

My 17 year old is constantly complaining that we don't let him do adult things. Our answer is always the same. When you start acting like an adult we'll start treating you like one.

You want to be seated at the adults table? Start acting like one.

Who The Hell Are You?

I recommend some personal inner reflection time. Ask yourself "why aren't we given more respect from the Democratic establishment?"

Who the hell are you? I don't feel I need any personal reflection time at all. I don't feel I've done anything to merit disrespect from the Ohio Democratic establishment since I became involved in politics 4 years ago.

Was working the entire summer of 2004 with State Rep. Dan Stewart when he faced a GOP challenger armed with $750,000 what earned me such disrespect?

How about that fall, when as political director for the OSU College Dems we put together a plan that turned out the precincts around OSU 2-1 for John Kerry. Was that it?

Was it working in 2006 as co-campaign manager for Dean Hernandez in the 21st House District? A race we lost by less than a thousand votes despite being outspent 5-to-1? Maybe it was all the goddamn driving I did around the state for Jennifer Brunner, dropping off thousands of yard signs in places ranging from Chillicothe to Youngstown?

Or is it what I do now, co-running this blog while traveling the country to YDA meetings to represent Ohio and paying for the travel out of my own damn pocket. Is that what earned me such disrespect?

And if you look at the post carefully, you'll see that I'm claiming that right now, today, BSB gets 3X the traffic and 2X the Technorati rating of ODB. Those numbers were higher in Dec 2007, but that's what they are today.

You are taking this WAY too personally.

Why don't you try and learn from the ODP why it might have recommended Ohio Daily Blog instead of BSB, rather than get all huffy and make silly threats that "[you] won't forget" the perceived snubbing. BSB was here long before you, and it will likely be here long after your stewardship. Rather than burn bridges in your rather young political career, how about you man up, act like an adult, and see what you can do differently next time around to receive the support of the ODP.

Ohio2nd is chris baker

who now posts at ODB, and who now will go to the convention and get his rocks off star-fucking the likes of doug kelly.

which all is fine.  but the process of credentialling blogs has been proven as a total sham, and baker is a beneficiary of it.

Holy S@$#!

I didn't know I was going to the convention? I'm so excited!!! Actually, I could give a flying F and honestly it has nothing to do with me. Jeff's the man. I am not eligible nor am going to do anything. (Fucking Jeff... doesn't he know that I am the greatest blogger in Ohio and it should be ME that's going. How I hate him.) Seriously Tim, you are hilarious. I've never met someone more in need of a hug. BTW, what does it mean that I've front paged on both sites? I feel so torn. Maybe I'm playing both sides against the middle for convention glory.

I'M CHRIS BAKER DAMNIT!

Bow down before me, bitches. (Grabs nuts)

Ohio2nd ...

Do you take sensible pills, or were you born level-headed?

If it's the pills, where can I get some?
