If Romney Doesn't Support the Sign, Why'd He Sign A Copy of the Picture For Me?

Administrator - Posted on 23 July 2007

UPDATE: I'm available for comment on this signed picture, or the question I asked Mitt yesterday, at jerid@buckeyestateblog.com

Yesterday before I asked the now infamous townhall question to Mitt Romney, I spoke with him at "Memories" Ice cream parlor in Kingston, NH. At that event he was more than happy to sign a copy of the picture for me.

The other side...

Romney claims he doesn't support all the signs his supporters hold up? Normally that'd be reasonable. However, when you, as a candidate, hold a sign up, smile, and get your picture taken with a sign comparing Americans to Osama Bin Laden that sends a different message. It's even more damning when you'll sign copies of the picture on the road. When he signed the picture before me he didn't apologize for the picture, he just went on accepting the goodwill he thought it'd bring from the voters that support that sort of thing.

Mitt Romney, you still have not answered my question...Why do you think it's ok to compare any American to Osama Bin Laden?

So when handed a piece of paper by someone at an ice cream shop so they could get his signature, Romney was supposed to turn it over to see what was on the back and make sure he wasn't signing the back side of a page that had a printed out version of some cell phone pictures of a campaign sign that some on the fringe left may deem ignorant and xenophobic? Gotcha.
Did you show him the back of the page before he signed it? If not, why is this "proof" of anything?
Good thing it wasn't kiddie porn, then. Or a copy of the Communist Manifesto. Or Mein Kampf. Seriously, when do Republicans become responsible for their own actions? Oh right, it's when they vote against something the administration supports...
Nice set up!

Liars always get caught in the end Anonymous.....this will go on and on and this smiling jackass will contiue to show the world he has no ethics and values and would say or do anything to get the nomination.

Naturally people like you will contiue to condone this behavior and more than likely encourage it. Hopefully, ethically starved types have had their day and we return to a more honest system of representation where a mans word is his badge of honor......Mitt wears his badge like a cheap thong....and it contains about the same substance...

The photograph before he signed the back. He didn't apologize for the sign, say he's not about that or anything else. He looked at the photo and signed the back.

If this flipflopper-in-chief has an iota of morals and conscience he needs to apologize to Obama and Clinton.

And this moron also needs to answer why he does not care capturing Bin Laden who is responsible for killing 3000 innocents on 9/11.

In April 2007 Romney had told AP in an interview, "It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person" when asked about whether its important to catch Osama Bin Laden.

Jerid, be prepared for the tons of hate-mail from the "hate loving" right-wing sycophants of Romney. We all know what they stand for.

Did you lil feeling get hurt? But they can run around and call Bush Hitler at every turn. Jam this clowns e-mail--teach him a lesson in politics he'll never forget. Traitor.
Read 'em and weep. The whole country has woken and smelled the bozos. Better wipe the clown paint off, little man. People are seeing the Republidroids for the traitors they are.
Why are you hiding behind 'anonymous' and telling the other winger trolls to jam his e-mail? Why not let us have yours? Just more proof that these wingers are scared little pissy-pants, and lack the cajones to expose themselves. See: John Doe legislation. Pathetic.
Why did he sign the back?
Unless you're asking us to endorse a president that doesn't bother to look at what he's actually signing when he signs something.
As President? That's just freaking scary. His whole argument doesn't hold water, like the rusted out buckets the GOP tries to carry Bush's water in.
This has Macaca-level potential. Romney went a bit too far in trying to "prove" his conservative bonafides. His politically tone deaf response wasn't helpful, either.
Huge kudos to you for superglueing the mud Romney tried to throw at Obama onto his own face. And greatly weakening the effect of this ugly, dishonest meme by bringing it out into the open.

You probably don't remember me. I was one of the Dayton, Ohio folks who showed up about once a week to make calls for Stephanie Studebaker before the campaign came to a sad end. (I felt rather embarrassed after distributing campaign literature at the Blues Festival the same day the s**t hit the van. Oh, well. She still would have been a good representative, and she did the right thing.)

I went on to work for Richard Chema's campaign, but we didn't have the money or momentum.

I'll be back in 2008 to work for the Democrats again. Best of luck to you.

So it's not ok to compare any American to Osama, but it's ok to compare any American to Hitler? Sounds like a double standard to me.
Common Jerid, I like your blog... But when you showed him the paper with the picture... this is the conversation that happened. R: "I dont want to sign that" J: "Its all I have" R: "Ummm" J: "Here then can you sign the back" R: "Okay" Or something very similar to that.
Why try and pick on Mitt for this? If the campaign sign had been made by his campaign or one of his staffers, I would take issue - but it wasn't. I had a very good friend on flight 11 and this sign does not bother me one bit. I take it for what it is, a sign made by a young person that's getting involved in our political process. It's you that is making an issue where one does not exist (and probably on behalf of a democrat's campaign) So, get over it and pick an ISSUE that MATTERS.
so why pick on him?
You made TMZ.com.
Mitt saw the photo, and was trying to be coy by turning it over and signing the back. Plausible deniability. He's a flip flopper who's had decades of practice.

This isn't you, is it?
I posted the comment above.
And I invite you to try and blackmail me publicly with the same comments you've emailed me. Because trust me friend, you're wrong.
You Lefties are such hypocrites. How dare you take offense at such a thing considering all the hate filled things that are said on a daily basis by damn near every one of you considering not only Bush and his cabinet, but each and every Conservative or Republican. All one has to do is look at the daily news to see signs held upo, slogans chanted amongst other things. A quick look at any Liberal blog will have any person of decency wanting to vomit at the filth, profanity and pure hatred exposed there. Just the fact that the Yearly kos Hatefest has front runners for the Dems speaking at it and sponsoring the event is more than enough proof that the only thing Liberals understand is hatred, vile filth and hypocrisy. Romney should not only NOT apologize for this, he should come out and say how damn proud he is to have stood by this person who obviously understands that to vote for any of these people who are actively working towards surrendering to our enemies and allowing terrorism to win is a vote for the destruction of this country, peace and freedom for all mankind. You are a hypocrite, anti-American and a vile horrible human who is best left ignored rather than given a voice. I am all for Freedom of Speech, but I am also for reponsibility for ones actions and words...something Liberals know nothing about.

everyone should love multiple-choice Mitt since he does NOT care about capturing Bin Laden. Remember what Romney told AP in an interview, "It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person" when asked about whether its important to catch Osama Bin Laden.

Here is a phony who wants to be a president but does not care about the person who killed 3000 people.

I see that comments are CENSORED. Obviously you only post those from your hate-filled sycophants and other hypocrites. I will be shocked to fine either this post or the other one I just posted on here. That is the hallmark of Liberal blogs. They only allow those to speak that agree with them and don't expose them for the hate-mongering hypocrites they are.
yes, all liberal blogs censor the comments and still your comments appear here magically! Republican brain at work!!
you and your ilk find it ok to compare the President of the United States to Hitler and falsly claim that he had anything to do with 9-11. I guess it is only good enough for you, huh?
His response was so typical. Anytime they smear any Dem they come back with "lighten up". "You're too sensitive." "Quit being so politically correct." I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the whole "sign" business was planned. Romney has been on the attack against Dems lately. I'd love to know who the lady was that was in the video. Probably Romney's mom or something.
That be your new nickname Jer....nationwide....this story was everywhere......
you're clever. but people can't trust. if you're my friend, i will be very scared coz you might trick me or anybody just to get famous or just to be notice?
The original joke went like this: Chelsea Clinton went to Iraq and asked a brave Marine whether he was afraid of anything. He replied: "Osama, Obama and your Moma."
Isn't "moma" spelled with two m's? As in "momma"?
This is an excellent way for a Mayor Coleman staffer to be paid for doing nothing.
The Hitler comparison doesn't hold water. I doubt you will see any of the Dem front runners (Clinton, Obama or Edwards) comparing Bush to Hitler. Yet here Romney is holding up a sign equating Obama and Osama. What do those two have in common? The fact that their names rhyme?
and you liberals need to GET A BRAIN! Morans.
Project much 'tard?
Jerid, I had predicted on Monday that the right-wing 'hate brigade' will be here soon on the orders of "dear leader Mitt" to spew their hate speech against you. And boy, I was right on the mark!
I'm sure he'd be outraged to know that a Republican presidential candidate is promoting hate speech. For all the Mittbots onboard, let us know when one of the Democrats do something this disgusting. And what's with the Republican character flaw that your candidates can't admit screwing up and taking responsibility for their actions? "I didn't read the sign". Good thing the person didn't have a sign that read "I'm with Stupid". `
When I was watching the clip on the news, I kept thinking what made this so shocking is that we're so unused to seeing Republicans pressured. Either they screen the audience so all they get is fluff or the press is self-censoring. Kudos on the question and for standing your ground. That was great. Considering how the right had a meltdown about a video on Moveon.org ..that was REMOVED...they have no call to whine or cry "hypocrisy!". Nicely done, and particularly since Mitt stooped to take a cheap shot at Obama about sex education for kids, it was most deserved. Good going - if it makes RWers whine, all the better. A fan in the Heartleand
Why is it that the 'winger trolls here are calling for your e-mail to be stuffed, but none of them has the cajones to even post a username, instead using anonymous? Or are they just so used to being told what to do that they have no ability to come up with one on their own?
When does this go on ebay.com?
Hey Jerid, I liked the way you tried to manufacture news by trying to create a scandal. Too bad Romney's clean, perfect marriage, perfect kids, perfect business career, perfect political career turning around the bluest state in the union. You know the libs are desperate when the only thing they got on Romney is his hunting past or his family vacation with their dog. HAHA!
