How to Clean Your Roller Blinds Quickly and Easily

If you want to stop the harmful rays of the sun from coming into your property, while at the same time making your home look better, then roller blinds is what you are looking for. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for these blinds to become dirty, as dust and other pollutants accumulate on the fabric. This means that, every once in a while, you will need to give them a clean. Below are some of the most important tips to doing that properly.

How to Clean Your Roller Blinds

When you purchased your blinds, the manufacturers should have provided you with full care instructions that list the way you should clean them. It is vital that you pay attention to these tips. Some, for instance, will tell you that the blinds cannot be properly cleaned, which means that all you can do is rub them with a soft, dry cloth.

Presuming they can be cleaned, you first have to remove your blinds from the window. Once down, spread them on the ground so they don’t start to crinkle. Make sure that you have some newspaper or other fabric underneath the blinds.

With a vacuum cleaner, you should be able to remove the vast majority of the dirt. Hopefully, you have a vacuum cleaner with a strong brush attachment. This is perfect for picking up dust and other dirt from fabric roller blinds. If your vacuum doesn’t have such an attachment, you can do it by hand by using a microfiber cloth or even an old sock (so long as the sock is clean, of course).

Next, fill your bathtub with hot water and use some high quality soap or liquid detergent that has mixed properly with the water. Blend it until it starts to bubble slightly. If your blinds are made from a white fabric, make sure you add a tablespoon of bleach to the water. And, if you do this, you also have to make sure that you wear gloves for the rest of the cleaning process.

Make sure that you can get the entire blind into the bathtub and that it is fully submerged. Leave it there for around half an hour, before rubbing any stains out. The water itself then be removed and you can then fill it up again to get any dirt and dust leftovers out of your blinds.

If you have any doubt about what you are doing when cleaning your blinds, you must stop what you are doing. This is particularly true with fabric blinds, which can discolor and stain if you do things wrong. If you do have doubts, then you should simply phone in a professional blinds cleaner. Usually, people who clean upholstery and carpets will also have the tools to clean your blinds.

Fabric roller blinds are some of the most beautiful blinds out there, as well as being some of the most expensive. You must make sure, therefore, that you look after them properly.

  1. I really liked the tip you gave to fill the bathtub with hot water and use soap or detergent to clean your roller blinds. I would have never thought of doing this, however, I can see how effective this can be because you’re completely submerging the blinds in the water. Overall, this will help you to be more thorough when cleaning and ensure that all the dirt build up is cleaned off your blinds. Thank you for sharing!
