Homophobic Artist Banned From Other Cities, But Not Columbus

On October 3rd, a man calling himself “Buju Banton” is slated to preform at Columbus’ Lifestyles Community Pavilion.

Banton, a reggae artist, is infamous for his song 1992 song “Boom Bye Bye, where he called for homosexuals to be burned and gunned down.

Below are some of the lyrics from that song.

(Two man) Hitch up on an rub up on
An lay down inna bed
Hug up on another
Anna feel up leg
Send fi di matic an
Di Uzi instead
Shoot dem no come if we shot dem--
Don't want Jackie
Give dem Paul instead

Followed up by:

(Caw me say) Dis is not an bargain (Me say)
Dis is not a deal
Guy come near we
Then his skin must peel
Burn him up bad like an old tire wheel

Whoa, Bob Marley would not be down with this shit.

But it doesn’t stop there, Banton has taken his hate for gay people well beyond simple words. He was allegedly part of a violent attack on people believed to be gay several years ago.

A Facebook movement has been started to get the concert cancelled. They’re asking you to call the venue at 614-461-5483 and tell them you don’t want this crap here in Ohio.

I urge you to call tomorrow during business hours.

UPDATE: The concert has been canceled.
