Ground Zero Mosque Opponents Providing Aid To the Enemy

Nick D - Posted on 31 August 2010

In a move that anyone with half a brain could have anticipated, the Taliban is using the controversy over the so-called Ground Zero Mosque as a recruiting tool. They are literally providing aid to the enemy.

What I’m wondering is the same thing that Paul Krugman wondered in his column in today’s New York Times: where are all the so-called “responsible” GOPers to stand up and condemn this non-sense?

Responsible GOPers? Hello?

Buehler?

Buehler?

You goofballs did it. You really did it. You banned me! Well done, fellas. A real couple of winners. LOL. By the way, isn't this post kind of like accusing someone of being unpatriotic? Also, do you really mean to write that upwards of 70 percent of Americans are providing aid and comfort to anti-American terrorists? And it appears you know where to find Krugman's columns. Anything to say about Krugman's assertion that the 'recovery' is no such thing? Ha, ha. I know the answer to that. You dorks will never write anything that isn't first approved by your overlords. Now, ban this one and get back to obeying Democrat politicians, regardless of where facts and evidence take you. Democrats uber alles. Uber alles!
Don't worry about banning me. I'll ban myself. LOL. I can't believe you did that. Very funny.
Chris Christie is one, and I'm sure there are more.

but I frequently claim to be a conservative. Did you read my blog on the subject? I've suggested several times that you personally read it and even asked you personally for feedback. It seems that you rarely read anything from an opposing view. If you want to try it, my post on the mosque is at http://newfromclt.blogspot.com/2010/08/president-obamas-views-on-911-mosque.html.

Hi Randy, I went over and read your post on your blog (love the theme, BTW).

First of all, I agree with you 100% that this matter should never have been escalated to the national level. The smart thing for President Obama to do would have been to say "This is a local matter. Michael Bloomberg is the duly elected mayor of the City of New York, and I stand ready to support whatever decision he makes."

For some reason, however, he chose to wade into the fray and therefore nationalize the issue. The fact that he did so seems, based on your post, to cause you some doubts as to whether or not he is truly a Christian.

In my mind, it means he is too smart for his own good. He knew that the protests over the so-called "Ground Zero mosque" (in reality its four blocks away and is a community center, not a mosque) would be used by the Taliban and other Muslim extremists for recruiting purposes, because it adds to the perception that these extremists want to build: that America is at war with Islam. By standing up for the basic bedrock American (some would say conservative) principles of religious liberty and private property rights, he could hopefully defuse some of the hateful rhetoric. It's a long shot to be sure, and ill-advised in the sense of the national political debate, but there you have it.

The biggest difference I see between President Obama and his Democratic predecessor President Clinton, is that Clinton seemed to know what the people who shop at Wal-Mart would think about a particular issue. He seemed to know how middle American would view things, instinctively. President Obama has yet to demonstrate that ability. If he had, he wouldn't have waded into this one.

As to your comments about whether or not President Obama is truly a Christian, I really do not think it matters. Article 6 of the Constitution states: "but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

than was intended. Hopefully you went back and read my original comments about the President's Christianity (as I recall, I specifically emailed you back then and asked for your comments - I wanted input from a liberal). I think it was my final comments that you interpreted to mean I think he's not a Christian. These comments should be interpreted in the light of my original comments. As a Christian, I have an obligation to speak to other Christians about errors in their faith. In this case, he's not practicing the faith he claims. As an American, he has the right to practice anyway he wants and as you pointed out, it's not a requirement for any office (and I agree with that concept 100%). My comments in the end are directed at the President and anyone else who chooses to practice the same way.
All the reports I've seen say two blocks. But the reports are focused more on the sensationalism of both sides than they are the facts...
One quibble, however. Unless the proposed use of the (privately owned) land in some way violates a zoning regulation or law, no government official, including Bloomberg, needs to make any "decision" regarding the mosque. That doesn't preclude the right of PRIVATE citizens to peacefully express their views regarding the mosque, of course. I would love to hear an elected official to someday simply say, when asked about a controversial issue, "It's none of the government's business."

Am I to understand that there are those in this country who feel that the only way to fight the Taliban is to welcome them with open arms, use their money and just let them have their way and let them slap us in the face on a day that is sacred to many?

My personal feeling is that they do have the right to build, however they are behaving shamefully by opening it on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. I think if it goes through the entire world will see how cruel, thoughtless, and how much in control of America they are being allowed to be. They should go ahead and open their mosque just do it on a different day and stop bringing so much attention to it. The only big deal is the date.
