GOP Goes Nuclear In Ohio With Race Card

Administrator - Posted on 05 September 2007

I gotta give it to the GOP on this one, when a normal person beats a dead horse they usually give up, but the GOP? They just hit it harder.

Going back to their time tested playbook, the GOP has broken out the race card a full 14 months before the 2008 general election. Broken the race card out big time in fact.

Apparently yesterday Republican talk radio host "Quinn" of "The War Room with Quinn and Rose" on Clear Channel Columbus' 1230 AM made up a bunch of racist remarks, then claimed that the Governor had said them.

That douche bag Quinn.

All the makings of a good whisper campaign right off the bat, eh?

Anyways, among ridiculous and outright lies that Quinn claimed to have "reliable" or "credible sources" for were these statements:

"Governor Strickland in Ohio has been lobbying the Hillary campaign because he wants to be the vice president, and he's been lobbying the campaign based on the notion that the base will not accept a black man, especially those in the union. They do not like or trust black men. He says the Democrats cannot select - now get this, I have this from an unimpeachable source - he said the Democrats can not selected a face 'a face' that democrat union voters 'wouldn't want at their dinner table.' If he were a Republican, he'd be out of work today...

But there's more to this racist political tradition. Strickland by the way was rightly accused of using the same argument against Mayor Michael Coleman of Columbus who was running against him for the nomination, and the race was kneck and kneck, and Coleman was considered the slight favorite to Strickland, but ahh, big Teddy, Mr. Ted Strickland, was charged at an Ohio sportsman's event - I have multiple sources on this by the way - and I quote 'the Republicans are going to be dumb enough to nominate their blackface' meaning Mr. Blackwell 'let's not make the same mistake because theirs dances better than ours.' Are you kidding me. If he was a Republican Strickland would be out of office today. And his supporters apparently went so far as to pass racist cartoons and pamphlets around to white members of the steel, electrician and coal unions. So here's the bottom line you may be wondering why the United Steel workers...you want to know why they have signed on with Edwards and not with Hillary?...Now listen up black people, this is the party you've been voting for all your life.

...And now Ted Strickland will be lobbying the John Edwards campaign to be his VeePee."

OMG. Can you believe this conniving snake charmer? He presents no proof, he gives no names, and has no actual quote from the Governor that he can back up on radio. But still, he insists a massive conspiracy at which the heart of it has Ohio Governor a racist?

C'mon GOPers, you can do better than this. Kanye West told me that George Bush hates black people too. That makes him a racist.

And not to be outdone on slime, the GOP's own top dawg blogger, Karl Rove wannabe Matt Naugle, put together this fine depiction of the Guv for RAB.

fine picture, Matt.

It's funny how much disconnect there is with the Republican party and the African American vote. They think that if they toss around a racist charge and make some pictures, that'll get them the black vote ("Southern Strategy," anyone?). And speaking of funny pictures, this one worked out real well for Naugle's boss, Republican Ken Blackwell, last cycle.

Mmmm mmm.

Now Quinn, Matty, take some pointers here. Next time you make up shit, try making it a little more realistic. Use Blackwell's poster as a framework. See the enlarged head that plays into stereotypes about blacks? See how the comical look of the individual depicted is similar to racist cartoons of the early 20th/late 19th century? Now if you had claimed Strickland made subtle racist remarks playing on stereotype of this nature, it might be a little more believable than cutting up the Governor's quotes and sticking them between other stories you've hatched while on the shitcan. It's alright, you've got 14 more months to try out your smears. Good luck.

It shows how low Matt will go when he's quoting Jim Quinn as a source of anything.

First, note that 1230am fell to absolute LAST place in the ratings once they switched formats 8 months ago and Quinn was part of that mix. This is probably more publicity than Quinn has gotten here in Ohio in months.

But ... back in the 90s, the Quinn and Rose show was big on the Internets, free for downloading (which says something in and of itself). This was a time when there were no left wing voices on the radio.

I remember listing to Jim Quinn and it was a little like driving by a huge car wreck. Quinn was very big on the "Clinton Scandal" beat, having people like Larry Nichols on many times and participating as wilder and wilder stories were put out there for the right to salivate over.

So, go right ahead Matt ... use Quinn as a source. Thanks for making our jobs that much easier.

"'The Republicans are going to be dumb enough to nominate their black face', meaning Mr. Blackwell, 'let's not make the same mistake because their's dances better than ours.'"
The timing of the made up quote doesn't even make sense. They're talking about Blackwell the candidate before he's been nominated and Obama after he's declared as a Presidential candidate. There must be some rift in the wingnut's space-time continuum.
