First Solar Announced Expansion Today

Perrysburg plant to grow

The company estimates there will be an additional 134 jobs added at the Perrysburg facility.  Need I mention that the Strickland Administration's electrical energy plan for the next 20 years has 25% of Ohio's electricity being generated by renewable means by 2025.  This includes wind and solar.  The legislation which passed earlier this year mandates that 50% of that should be generated in Ohio.  Hopefully, First Solar is one of many renewable energy companies that will recognize Ohio's emphasis on their industry.

In a press release, First Energy said that state and local incentives helped them make the decision to expand in Ohio.

Too Bad...

Pelikan, its too bad that John McCain wants no part of those jobs, he'd rather have the government continue giveaways to Big Oil. Did you know that McCain's flip-flop on offshore drilling came after receiving $1.3 million in donations from Big Oil?

What's going on here ...

... Nick, I believe are the death throes of the hydrocarbon economy.  All the Republicans with their K Street Project and dependency on corporate funding are selling out America.  We should be investing all over the country in the energy future, not trying to milk every last penny out of the energy past.  A good place to start would be to suspend all tax loopholes and breaks now given to the oil and gas industry.  Reinvest those dollars in states like Ohio and businesses and technology on the front lines of progress.  Every day we waste continuing to suckle at the teats of BP and Exxon Mobil is another two days or more of hardship later.
