DSCC Poll Shows Fisher Leading Portman, Voters Blame Banks

Obviously the standard disclaimer: It’s way too early to trust in polling, and internal polling should always be taken with a grain of salt.

That said, Chris Cillizza reports that a DSCC poll has some great news for Ohio Democrats.

First up the poll shows Lee Fisher with a one point lead (37-36) over Republican Robert Portman. Being the DSCC, of course Brunner wasn’t mentioned.

Second, the poll showed just 1% of voters blaming the state of the economy on Gov. Ted Strickland.

  • 31% blame "politics in Washington"
  • 25% blame former president George W. Bush
  • 21% blame "Wall Street banks”
  • 8% blame President Obama
  • 1% blame Gov. Ted Strickland

Wait, who was the one that worked for a Wall Street bank? Oh ya, Kasich.

As Cillizza points out, the Senate polling is similar to what Quinnipiac polls have been showing.

"The Fix." So let's see, the DSCC polled Fisher/Portman but not Brunner/Portman. Or no one saw fit to talk about those results? Might one impute a message there?
But given that the DSCC hasn't exactly been quiet about it's support for Fisher, it's not really something one needs to read between the lines for.
Just as with Republican-favoring Rasmussen polls you have to switch about 5-10% of the response to get a true picture, i think this one shows that Lee is probably down by 5-10 points to Portman, and the DSCC is desperate to prove he is a winner. I wonder what their polls were telling them about Jennifer that they're releasing no numbers on her. To me that suggests she probably is polling better against Portman than Lee.
Let's work together to retire Ken Blackwell from politics
