Deborah Pryce hates it when we send kids to college

On Wednesday, the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 passed the House by a vote of 273-149. Pryce voted against it. She was joined in her idiocy by Ohio Reps. Tiberi, Chabot, Gillmor, Jordan, Hobson, and (surprise, surprise) Schmidt. For some reason Boehner didn't vote.

Here is a little background on the bill from Speaker Pelosi's blog:

The legislation invests about $18 billion dollars over the next five years in reducing college costs, helping millions of students and families. It comes at no new cost to taxpayers, and is funded by cutting excess subsidies paid by the federal government to lenders in the student loan industry.

That all sounds great to me, and I'm assuming that thousands of families who worry about paying for their kids' college feel the same. The Speaker even had a chart!

After flatlining Pell Grant spending for years, Pryce and Co. still have the gall to vote against this. I just don't get it.

Props to Ryan, Tubbs-Jones, Kaptur, LaTourette, Space, Wilson, Regula, Turner, Sutton, and Kucinich for voting yes. Special props to LaTourette, Regula, Turner for acting like human beings.
