I disagree on the LTV front.

The Kooch is the St. Jude of American Politics, and his fight for LTV is consistent with his ethos. Fighting to keep our regional economy focused on Industrial Era industries holds us back. Instead, we should have let LTV die once rather than resuscitate LTV 100 times. LTV is the Hackett of our economy: a long time failure that we talk about too much.

I already know MORE than enough about the guy. He's done some good things, no doubt. His fight to save LTV was admirable. But he's completely out of touch with the people in his district.

Case in point: He recently married a tall, beautiful, redhead from . . . ENGLAND??? What do you think Seamus, Patrick, and Rory in West Park have to say about that??

The Kooch is COMPLETELY out of touch.

I dont agree with all his positions at all but at least he takes them and sticks to them and doesnt back down - that I do admire and for all his sometimes kookyness on the big issues he has been right more than wrong. People who opposed the war from the gitgo dont get nearly the credit they should. it took guts and judgement.

not the former. the later. and, having lived in kucinich's district for a while, i agree he is not representative of the district. but i also know that his base of support is strong (some would say rabidly so).

besides, politics is about who gets the most votes, not who SHOULD get the most votes...

The PD’s decision to not back Kucinich this time around is the best editorial choice they’ve made since supporting Kucinich over Martin Hoke. It’s enlightened, controversial (papers rarely turn around on legacy endorsements), and spot-on.

Conspiracy theories are just that: if the editorial page is persuaded by their supposedly conservative ownership, then they chose a stupid premiere for their sea-change in their endorsements.

If anything, the editorial board at the PD is left-leaning, not conservative. Maybe they were at some point, but not now.

Ther endorsement of Ferris has everything to do with the fact that Kucinich has not paid attention to his district in recent years, especially during the time when he made his ridiculous run for President. There are times in the past when he's been effective, but it seems that those days have come and gone. He showed no leadership during the DFAS crisis, and Congressman Latourette from Lake County had to come in and find a solution. Where was the Kooch during all of that?

"God forbid someone from Cleveland was actually sucessful at something . . . " JeanLR, are you crazy? How was Kucinich successful at anything in his run for President? He did a great job becoming buddy-buddy with the likes of Michael Douglas and Shirley McClaine, but how does that help the cop in West Park or the electrician on 117th?

And if Kucinich has done such "important work" for Cleveland of late, why didn't he debate Barbara Ferris at the City Club and brag about his great accomplishments and give the reasons why he should be re-elected? For Kucinich to reject the offer to debate and give the voters an opportunity to see their candidates face-to-face smacks of arrogance. So much for being a "man of the people," Jean.

Wow, I am in awe tonight at some of the newspaper endorsements for the upcoming primary. I already posted an entry about the Canton Repository endorsing Flannery over Strickland. Moments after posting that, I came across an article that pointed out that the “Cleveland Plain Dealer” endorsed Barbara Anne Ferris over incumbent Dennis Kucinich. What I thought to myself? How can the “Cleveland Plain Dealer” (CPD) endorse Ferris over a popular incumbent?

After reading about this endorsement, I went to visit Bob Fitrakis’ blog. While I do not agree with him on many issues, I think he may have hit the reason for this endorsement on the head. Fitrakis writes that the “CPD” wants to try to influence the election so that the Republican candidate has a chance of winning in November. This endorsement, in combination with a recent request on Ferris’ website for Republican voters to crossover and vote for her in the primary, make it seem like there may very well be something wrong in Denmark. While this may seem like a conspiracy theory, remember that similar “coincidental” circumstances (newspaper endorsements and calls for crossover voters) lead to Cynthia McKinney’s defeat in 2002.

Anyhow, I hope that this is all just another Fitrakis’ conspiracy theory and that there is a logical explanation. Can someone from the 10th District provide me with the logical explanation behind why the “CPD” endorsed Ferris over Kucinich? I know that there has to be one, or I guess maybe newspapers do not even feel the need to fake nonpartisanship these days.
