Redfern is younger than the boomers, Strickland I believe may technically be older than the boomers.

On the other hand, if you are talking about DeWine, Coughlin, Husted et al - I think most of them are under 46 too - but I could be wrong.

Anyway - a lot of people are now arguing, with Obama's election and the cabinet he has assembled, that the boomers do in fact end way before 1964 and that now there is this mini-generation that used to be in the boomer group that really isn't - that would be my group and it's something I've long said - that I really don't have much in common with most people on the upper end of the boomer generation in particular - it was done in relation to birth rates, not trends or other developments - but then I bet you know all that.

FYI - I read that I'm really supposedly in the Jones Generation - I had to look that up - I don't buy that one either.

She's smart, personable, a great listener, bright, photogenic, accomplished, dynamic, an outstanding administrator,tough, a good and articulate speaker with a good record, a magnetic personality and she's known as well as Slick Johnny across the state -- which is not much.

No one will work harder than she. She would be a great candidate and she won't take no sh*t.

I would whole heartedly support Paula Brooks for SOS. I'm just speculating on who might be a good candidate if you wanted a prosecutor to run. Sherri Bevan Walsh fits that bill IMO.

Since it seems to have gravely offended you, I apologize for using the word "young" when by "young" I actually meant someone who is relatively unknown statewide because (s)he has yet to run statewide. As every person I can think of who fits the bill and is considering running statewide is younger than 60, which by most political standards is still relatively young, I thought "young" would be an okay word to use. I now see the error of my ways. I also take full responsibility for the age limit to run for Ohio Supreme Court. I just hate anyone older than 14.

I know of and know quite a few local elected officials who are baby boomers and are competent. Perhaps if more of their generation of politicians were similarly competent and consider the community above their own selfish desires, we wouldn't have this "brain drain" at all.

Why does the talent have to be young? Ever consider, esp. for something like SOS, that, in fact, it should NOT be someone "young" - whatever you mean by that. If I ran for and won a local elected office, and did that for a few years and decided to seek statewide office, I'd be well into my mid-50s - would you consider me "young" - young in terms of how long I'd been in elected office, but not as far as age.

And esp. in Ohio, where we're constantly talking about the brain drain, I'd be careful with that young thing. We have 88 counties with elected people in them - you better believe a lot of them are capable and not "young."

Maybe I'm finally embracing my inner boomer.

If the Ohio Democratic Party lacks any sufficient young talent to run statewide, that's a damning indictment of Chris Redfern's failure to plan for the future. However, I'm not willing to say there aren't viable candidates. I am more than willing to say that Redfern's boys Bill and Dean are as appealing on a statewide ticket as the clap is to sailors on shore leave.

Mason is viewed--rightly or wrongly--as racist by a substantial portion of Cuyahoga County. That could help him win populist swing votes.

That disgusting but true political calculation over, heaven help us if we have Bill Mason on the statewide ballot. I refused to vote for Marc Dann and I sure as hell won't vote for Bill Mason.

As Modern has reported below, rumor has it that ODP Chairman Chris Redfern has already backed Cuyahoga County prosecutor Bill Mason for Secretary of State. As a Cuyahoga County resident myself, I just can't believe it. Doesn't 'Fernsy get the Plain Dealer down there? Until this FBI corruption probe into Jimmy Dimora is complete, I can't believe that anyone in Columbus would want to consider a Cuyahoga County official for any statewide office, especially one as important as Secretary of State.

If you want a prosecutor to run, how about Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh? She has a spotless record in 8-plus years, as far as my research indicates. I just don't get this. Why not let the primary process play itself out? We have to come up with someone with less baggage than Mason in order to take on Slick Jonny Husted, who is going to be a tough customer.
